NEW YORK — New York City is buying one-way plane tickets for homeless families to leave the city.
It's part of a program by Mayor Michael Bloomberg's administration to keep the homeless out of the expensive shelter system, which costs $36,000 a year per family. More than 550 families have left the city since 2007. All it takes is for a relative to agree to take them in.
The city employs a travel agency for domestic travel and the Department of Homeless Services handles international travel.

A modest proposal...relatives there or not, just ship them all to San Francisco, along with all the non-criminal illegals we can round up. They need sanctuary!
You know, we employ that guy. If he is not going to show a birth certificate, shouldn’t he at least be forced to show a green card?
I think this is a fabulous idea! Bravo! Imagine, asking familyemberd for help instead oh the government. I do not know why some of you are against this. Would you rather the homeless just die in the streets? And now the government does have a travel agency set jup to give one way tickets to illegals! It’s a win-win!
Likewise, correct the mis-interpretation that allows Anchor Babies to suck off the system, too.
Fine with shipping them home. Some of these prices are First-Class fares however.
This happens all the time. My daughter is a paramedic in Colorado and the homeless are shipped from northern states to Colorado by bus.
