How much sweat does it take to set a new heat-wave record? Sticky Seattleites may find out this week. If temperatures stay at 90 degrees or higher through Saturday, that will add up to six sweltering days in a row. And if Seattle's high reaches 100 degrees today, as forecast, it will tie the city's all-time temperature record. The region's previous record hot spells lasted five days, in August 1981 and July 1941. "We're certainly in the running," said Brad Colman, local meteorologist-in-charge for the National Weather Service.

I almost mentioned the lack of humidity, but as I thought about it, I decided that while a ‘dry heat’ was arguably better than the hot humid summers I knew in DC, it was still a pain in the rear when it went on for a week or so at a time. I think the issue is that there is no relief anywhere. You can’t go home and turn on the air, you can’t go from a hot home to a cool office ‘cause in many places there’s no air there either.
“...they had gotten a few new buses with A/C, but of course, none were on my route.”
No doubt those were all assigned to routes in the Rainer Valley. Well, they’d need them.
Today set a record for the highest ever recorded - 105, the highest since 1891. Seattle was first "settled" in 1851, so most of the recorded history here has a temperature record as well.
I saw 111 deg on my dasboard readout going through Seattle on I-5 at about 3:00 Wednesday.
Thursday morning I left for Bellingham.....83 deg when I arrived.
We reached 84 today in Edmonds. Never thought the mid 80s would feel so “cool”! :)
I have an inddor/outdoor thermometer set in my kitchen. It measures also the temp in my backyard, which is where I get a little bit of morning sun.
In the morning, it peaked out at the max, over 120, understandable with the sun on it. But after about 1:30 PM, the sun goes west and it’s no longer directly in it, actually, after about 3 PM my backyard is totally out of the sun.
6:30 PM on Wednesday, it was 94 in my house and still measured 108 degrees in my back yard.
Because of the way my house is laid out and the trees, my bedroom was about 87, still tolerable.
No AC.
