GAO lists Postal Service as a troubled agency in need of immediate action
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Government Accountability Office on Tuesday added the Postal Service to its list of high-risk federal agencies in need of change.
The post office has been struggling with a sharp decline in mail volume as people and businesses switch to e-mail both for personal contact and bill paying. The agency is facing a nearly $7 billion potential loss this fiscal year despite a 2-cent increase in the price of stamps in May, and cuts in staff.

So stamp prices are going up again?
Geeeez...you mean the buisness geniuses in the Federal Government that want to take over Health Care didn’t see this coming? Kind of reminiscent of the way they didn’t know that Baby Boomers were retiring and would bankrupt SS? Yep. *&^% GENIUSES...
I’m glad we run the Post Office so well. I am sure we will be just as successful with health care.
" Pending legislation in the House and Senate would offer short-term help, but "that can only postpone the inevitable insolvency of the Postal Service. We firmly believe the Postal Service will be unable to meet its financial obligations in the near future without fundamental structural change," council executive director Robert C. McLean said. "
and more government regulations.... probably when a congressional report is complete the finding will be that bot enough minorities are working for them so 0bama will write an E.O. and CEO the place. < / sarcasm >
There will also be an appointment of a POSTAL czar.
Bailout monies to the post office on the way and we will pay.
UPS, FedEx and the internet.
Are there internet and Post Office czars yet?
Dump ‘Em!!!!!
The only entities and people left to cry for money are the credit card companies, Janie’s coll-aid stands and the upper middle class of America.
Guess which ones will be ignored?
Well... Janie’s cool-aid stand may get a bailout if she is an 0bama voter with that cool-aid she sells.
Hell, I could have told them that.
My USPS office and carriers are certifiably crazy. I’m lucky to get mail and don’t complain lest one of them do bodily harm to me.
We must have the same Post Office.
I have friends that work for the Post Office. They say that first class mail (full price first-class mail) has DECREASED by more than 56% in the last six years (and it continues to fall). In the mean time, bulk rate (advertisement mailings) have INCREASED by about 30% (and it continues to rise because the Post Office keeps cutting deals with companies to ensure they have some guaranteed income).
With that, the Post Office that he works in has cut back employees to be thread bare - because the first class sales are off! Then when all the extra advertisements come in, they end up working overtime (EVERY WEEK) to make the delivery requirements.
So, just like the rest of our government they set themselves up for failure and then act stupid and surprised when they FAIL!?!?!? They release people so they are not paid to stand around and then they pay overtime every week to get the job done - STUPID!
I respect all mail carriers, the junk mail is a pain in the ass. I remember seeing some 20/20 show that showed carriers -hiding stcked up high- in old cars and garages on their property because they could not carry more than the or 85 lbs every day due to back injuries.

LOL yeah they need a captain obvious with a stack of bail-out money so 0bama can CEO them.
sound like public schools here in Minnesota-
fewer students so they complain they need MORE money from the state because of cuts in aid based on per pupil funding...
at any rate, they ALWAYS need MORE.
I wonder how the compensation packages for USPS workers compares to that of UPS and FedEx.
“at any rate, they ALWAYS need MORE.”
That is the problem with any and ALL government offices: they ALWAYS need more money. I have served on school board councils, POA Boards and city council committees - I have seen it ALL; here are a few examples:
1) Less students, need more money (due to pupil percentage losses)
2) More students, need more money (due to all those students)
3) Failing students, need more money (to provide better schools and more teachers, etc...)
4) Achieving students, need more money (to help expand these achievements to MORE students)
5) Less crime - need more money (to expand those great programs)
6) More crime - need more money (to help fight all that rampant crime)
7) More fires - need more money (to get better equipment and more fire fighters)
8) Less fires - need more money (to better train the fire fighters to fight those with less men)
IT NEVER ENDS!
It is ALL BS! Until the government (and all government run institutions like schools, city halls, police stations, post office, etc...) start to be run like a business where their funding is based on their accomplishments - they will continue to FAIL and seek more money!
I am not against ANY public servant that is a public servant (most fire fighters and police officers fall into the true “public servant” description, SOME teachers, but it is no longer that most are servants), but think about this: if school teachers were paid based on the number of students they graduated and were college ready - how much different would their attitudes be? Heck, my two nieces who both graduated from the same school (three years apart) were forced to take remedial math and English courses before actually starting college because they FAILED those portions of the college entrance exam! Come to find out, over HALF of those graduating classes had to take remedials - THAT is BS!
I as a safety man have to train my employees to be safe at the jobsite - if they get hurt on the job - my job is on the line because I did not stress the importance of safety to them. I failed to do my job of putting safety into their minds as a priority!
just remember, no gubmint program is ever a failure, it’s just “underfunded”.
