Declassified Ike documents show '50s not so serene

TOPEKA, Kan. – President Dwight D. Eisenhower grappled with topics like relations with Iran and stability in Iraq during an era that was far more complex than thought, newly declassified documents show.

The papers illustrate that the 1950s, long viewed as an idyllic time of "I Love Lucy" and cars with tail fins, were fraught with delicate policy challenges.

"What's ironic is that the issues that Eisenhower was dealing with 50 or so years ago are the issues that the Obama administration is dealing with today," Eisenhower Presidential Library director Karl Weissenbach said Wednesday.

"The records show the U.S. has long been concerned over its relationship with the Muslim world."

Who with a functioning brain thought that ‘any’ period in history was ‘serene’?

What is ironic is that the issues were dealt with back then with out the Government creating daily crisies, taking over private busineses etc.

… an era that was far more complex than thought by liberals…

Fixed. 60 years later and libs still don't understand what happened during what they view as a black hole in time between Truman and Kennedy, with the one blip on the radar being the Godzilla-like rampage of Sen. McCarthy.

"The records show the U.S. has long been concerned over its relationship with the Muslim world."

It was Ike who basically decided that Saudi Arabia would be the richest nation on the planet and allowed those camel riding pedophile worshiping savages to nationalize an American company.

F*** Ike.

I wonder if any of the documents dealt with “Operation Keelhaul”. The forced repatriation of the Don Cossacks
back to the Soviet Union.
Hundreds, perhaps thousands, committed suicide rather than
return and of the thousands that were returned most were
either shot or sent off to the Siberian Gulag, women and
children included.

The AP asshats just now found out that the US and Ike were concerned with “Iran and Iraq”? Have these ignoramuses ever opened a history book? This stuff is news to them?

SHEESH!

And BTW Ike had the balls to support a pro-Western coup in Iran. Obama has not.

That’s the difference.

When I was born in '54 Ike was Prez (lots of negatives but tons better than Obozo), Marciano was heavy champ, and one could mail order Lugers in good condition for $40 (no FFL required). 1955 Winchester advert

I have been reading newspapers from the 30s while doing research on a sports topic. I can’t resist reading the front page headlines. The issues that Eisenhower faced were the same in the 30s and are the same today.

False.

The Saudis threatened to nationalize Aramco in 1950 (President Truman). It was in the 1970's when they started to take control over more and more shares of Aramco. They nationalized it in 1980.

Oh, that’s me, second row right.

Duck ‘n cover!

And those mid-day air raid siren tests were ongoing right up to 1970.
