Details on Presidential Motorcades, Safe House for First Family, Leak via PeerToPeer Networking
ComputerWorld ^ | 7/29/09 | By Jaikumar Vijayan

Details about a U.S. Secret Service safe house for the First Family -- to be used in a national emergency -- were found to have leaked out on a LimeWire file-sharing network recently, members of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee were told this morning.

Also unearthed on LimeWire networks in recent days were presidential motorcade routes and a sensitive but unclassified document listing details on every nuclear facility in the country, Robert Boback, CEO of Tiversa Inc. told committee members.

The disclosures prompted the chairman of the committee, Rep. Edolphus Towns, (D-N.Y.), to call for a ban on the use of peer-to-peer (P2P) software on all government and contractor computers and networks. "For our sensitive government information, the risk is simply too great to ignore," said Towns who plans to introduce a bill to enforce just such a P2P ban.

Geez. 30 years ago I went to New London to train on the Nautilus. It cracked me up to see all the signs directing people to the sub base. I need secret clearance to get on board, but any enemy could have gotten there by folllowing the signs! It was like “secret nuclear sub base here!”

They need to like triple obama’s guard detail.

I pray everyday that someone doesn't kill him.

Can you imagine every road, park, and school in America not currently named for MLK being renamed President Barrak Hussin Obama Dr or some such !

The left would make a martyr out of him for the next 200 years.

Please pray for his health.

I think you're right. This would fit in perfectly with 0bozo's other ne0-Nazi symbolism, the fawning, adoring masses, the uplifted nose, superior smug arrogance, the larger than life posters of "The 0ne" (piss be upon him), the Greek mythology pillars, his ne0-Nazi youth brigades, and the list goes on. 0bozo is socialist-fascist-commie usurper, who I think very much admires Hitler & his absolute control over peoples' lives.

Only ignorant a-holes have Limewire on their PCs. Once it's installed, you can never get rid of it shy of an Fdisk and rebuild.

It's gonna be a LONG 3 1/2 years until we can put some adults back in charge.

LOL!!!

I used to love browsing through the drives of unsuspecting users that shared their entire 'C:\' drive. Just do a search for .sys, .log. and .tmp then watch the results poor in. Those are your targets. Some aren't sharing their entire drive, but MOST of them will be. It's also fun to search for the extensions of MS Office software.. .xls, .doc(x), and .mdb. Often, those searches reveals some interesting info, and yes, many of those users are unknowingly sharing the entire system drive of the computer they are running the file sharing application on..

The article says the Democrat from NY blamed Limewire - that's like blaming Walmart if you buy a rope and hang yourself with it...
Gee, maybe P2p just isn't appropriate on gov't computers, unless there're rats who want to undermine gov't security.

"The only vendor at today's hearing was Mark Gorton, chairman of Lime Group LLC, the umbrella organization that runs Lime Wire LLC, developer of LimeWire, which is the most-used P2P client available. Gorton testified two years ago and promised at that time to implement changes in the company's products to make it harder for users to inadvertently share files.

Today he insisted that the company had implemented many of those changes and that the latest version of LimeWire makes it much harder for data to be inadvertently leaked. Those claims were largely rejected by members of the committee, who blasted Gorton for failing to live up to his promises.

" that's like blaming Walmart if you buy a rope and hang yourself with it"

I totally agree. This entire matter is the fault of the idiot end user that installed this application on their computer. IT staff may also be to blame if such software was installed and functional within their network.

I pray that he repents and accepts Christ as his personal savior, and drops all this socialist crap, and shrinks the federal government back to its constitutional limits. If he doesn’t I pray God removes him quickly before he destroys this nation and is responsible for the deaths of millions of patriots.

And God can remove him in any way He chooses.

Torrents and any other P2P software, while technically useful in a controlled enviroent, is, IMHO, just plain nuts to install on a computer out in the wild of the WWW.

Never use the stuff myself.

Kinda like I-64 in Norfolk or the newer bypass. The carrier piers are highly visible from I-64 I'd say 2.5-3 miles tops. On the bypass it runs right by Norfolk Naval Shipyards.

30 years ago just snapping a picture of any sub was a good way to get you camera taken and a trip to your C.O. to explain yourself. I've seen things on TV that were at least classified Confidential some used to be secret.

I just always got a kick out of this. Not that the Nautilus was state-of-the-art. But it still had nuclear technology.

As an aside, if we want energy independence, hand it over to the Navy to run the nuke plants.

I see advertised on TV and hear on the radio this thing called go to my PC or something like that.

So you sign up and from anywhere that you can go online with another computer you can put in a password and access your PC at home and everything on it.

I can't think of anything more reckless than doing that.

If you can get to it from anywhere, so can any hacker.

Oh, well actually I know of one more service more reckless that I have seen advertised.

You can sign up for a program where you can go online and back up your whole computer on line.

I can't believe that people use either one of those services.

There are likely enough Nuke Vets retired or who got out to run about as many reactors as we need to build.
