Thomas Sowell: Obama's Amateurism and Incompetence
REAL CLEAR POLITICS ^ | July 30, 2009 | Thomas Sowell

Posted on 07/31/2009 6:13:55 AM PDT by kellynla

After many a disappointment with someone, and especially after a disaster, we may be able to look back at numerous clues that should have warned us that the person we trusted did not deserve our trust.

When that person is the President of the United States, the potential for disaster is virtually unlimited.

Many people are rightly worried about what this administration's reckless spending will do to the economy in our time and to our children and grandchildren, to whom a staggering national debt will be passed on. But if the worst that Barack Obama does is ruin the economy, I will breathe a sigh of relief.

He is heading this country toward disaster on many fronts, including a nuclear Iran, which has every prospect of being an irretrievable disaster of almost unimaginable magnitude. We cannot put that genie back in the bottle-- and neither can generations yet unborn. They may yet curse us all for leaving them hostages to nuclear terror.

Conceivably, Israel can spare us that fate by taking out the Iranian nuclear facilities, instead of relying on Obama's ability to talk the Iranians out of going nuclear.

What the Israelis cannot spare us, however, are our own internal problems, of which the current flap over President Obama's injecting himself into a local police issue is just a small sign of a very big danger.

"During a recent TV interview, when President Obama was asked about the prospects of victory in Afghanistan, he replied that it would not be victory like in World War II, with "Hirohito coming down and signing a surrender to MacArthur." In reality, it was more than a year after Japanese officials surrendered on the battleship Missouri before Hirohito met General Douglas MacArthur for the first time.

This is not the first betrayal of his ignorance by Obama, nor the first overlooked by the media. Moreover, ignorance by itself is not nearly as bad as charging full steam ahead, pretending to know. Barack Obama is doing that on a lot of issues, not just history or a local police incident in Massachusetts.

While the mainstream media in America will never call him on this, these repeated demonstrations of his amateurism and immaturity will not go unnoticed by this country's enemies around the world. And it is the American people who will pay the price."

And then Mac stayed in Japan instead of coming home to one of the 57 states - oops, 55, alaska and Hawaii weren’t states yet.

What does he mean looking back we might see the clues? The first time he went before the cameras I pegged him as a used car salesman. The problem here is that he’s just the puppet. The power behind all this destruction is who we should really be frightened of.

‘”Hirohito coming down and signing a surrender to MacArthur.”

When I first heard this statement from the potus, it didn’t sound right- but I’m too young to have remembered V-J Day personally and figured the papers have fact checkers.

Now its cleared up, Hirohito wasn’t on the Missouri just as I had previously assumed.

“can be the trigger for a new Dark Age lasting a thousand years!”

Relax...with double-digit unemployment, double-digit interest rates & double-digit inflation by 2012, Hussein will be just another Jimmy Carter...”one & done!” Everyone just has to prepare themselves for the "storm" in the meantime. And the Gelding Old Party needs to get a testicle & spine implant by next year so they can begin to retake the Majority in the House and/or Senate in 2010.

"The problem here is that he is just a puppet."

American citizens should have been able to use their reasoning powers in 2007-2008 to realize that likely fact, leading them to seriously question just who and what were the powers behind the image being presented to them as a potential leader.

I hate to agree with Hillary Clinton, but the prospect of Obama getting that 2 am phone call in the White House is chilling. If his handling of the Somali pirate hostage crisis is indicative, we could in a national crisis expect vacillation and indecision, but judging from his rants about the Cambridge police he is also capable of making rash judgments and acting without thinking things through. Either scenario scares me.

I recall reading in one of Dr. Sowell’s autobiographical works that he was nominated for a government position during, I think, the Ford administration. When it turned out the nomination was a political ploy (I think the administration knew he wouldn’t be confirmed in time and was using it in some way), he withdrew from consideration. It clearly soured him on the political process, and who could blame him.

The author is totally accurate in all respects. He omits one fact. This whole process was begun by the Clintons. Instigating Social strife and reversing the, to that point considerable, gains of minorities in the U.S. was a small price to pay for buying votes and gaining political stature. Bill and Evita thought it was something they could turn off and on to suit their needs. Too bad....THAT genie will never again see the inside of the bottle! What a ‘legacy’! Thanks Bill.

Thomas Sowell was warning people about Obama long before he was elected.

His point is that the signs were there. He saw them. We saw them. But a lot of other people were too complacent or too caught up in the "historic" moment that they missed them.

Looking back, a whole lotta folks are now seeing what Sowell saw from the beginning.

Reagan's remark about every generation being one generation from losing the Constitution. (paraphrased) ... or it is necessary for every generation to guard against losing our Constitution and freedoms ... etc. is so accurate.

Every generation believes they are different ... better ideas, better motives, better concepts, better ways and means, ... while simultaneously thinking ... they were given greater problems and less potential, less opportunities, greater burdens, immense problems and threats ...

The younger generations are often given to haste and impulse, selfish purposes, and desires for self gratification, etc. Of course there are millions of exceptional people. However by the time a person has it figured out and sees accurately ... it is often too late to change the whole rebellious decisions and actions that impelled them in the beginning.

Forgive us Father, for we know what we do. Help us in our day. God bless America. In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

O-cult will never question their messiah

This O-cult is that magic 30 something % that are lockstep lib/socialist/old hippies that will never see the truth, whether it be in the form of klintoon, algore, kerry, jimah or the ONE. We should not be worried about this portion that we can not change nor will ever change. They are marginalizing themselves.

As Rass poll shows the HNIC down 11, the sad truth and realization about nobama is soaking in gradually to the the “moderate independents”, who were the actual deciding electors of this african wannabe dictator. Be patient and optimistic, "they never miss the water til the well runs dry".

The government exists because of the taxes it collects from the business producers. The O-cult is destroying that farm, soon there will be nothing to harvest. Afterwards the food that they have gorged themselves with will be gone.

His destruction of business is deliberate. There is no doubt about this.... Does he plan to federalize the entire economy?

One could write a good book about this if it had a snappy ending where the new dictator announces his return to his old religion and is seen as the new Imam.

I tried working on a few lefty loony friends but they were downing kool aid by the gallon. Told them he was not eligible long before November. Told them about the guys in the Chicago neighborhood. Told them about the lies. Their kumbaya chorus is “but he's black!” Nothing could pull them from the kool aid then and it doesn't look like anything ever will.

It'd be great to have a president who was competent and just happens to be Black, as opposed to someone who is president because he's Black, and we're expected to pretend it's a great advance in racial profiling.

My son is predicting that soon our food products raised in America will not be available to us ... because the corporations will sell the food to the highest bidder; and the demand will be from China, India, Russia etc ... you get the idea.

We will grow it, harvest it, and the corp. will sell it to the highest bidder.

Consider the reality of this well.

There is a reason that America is not mentioned in the Bible. Destruction is a reasonable consideration. It can come from several sources..

Isn't this the last place we think of having wide spread starvation?

More and more, I consult the wisdom of our founders. They knew human nature and the danger of unchecked human desires, particularly power. Our administration seeks to impose the same tyrannical power that our forefathers and THEIR fathers fled. Was it Franklin who said, “Gentlemen, you have your republic—if you can keep it”?

after Hussien loses on Obamacare, which will be his “Waterloo”,
his presidency will be essentially “null & void”...
the “only” thing of consequence that he will do in the remainder of his presidency will be any Supreme Court appointments. Lets just hope that none of the conservative judges on the Supremes dies before 2013.

___________________________________________________________

Complacency reigns, we simply do not recognize the extreme danger of it happening that America might have a Dictator. Or become Socialist or Communist in a very aborted time period.

The dramatic changes that occurred during the last 25-35 years ... all happened while we were busy looking elsewhere ... our lifestyles growing more leisurely, enjoying growth in discretionary spending, having comfortable lives, and success.

Now we are plunging downward and we still do not believe what is happening and has happened. MO

Turning away from God, embracing pornography and associated life choices as acceptable and normal. Allowing our education systems to be subverted bit by bit and we ignored the whole thing as making progress. God help us in our day. Amen.

Many other small steps that have resulted in subversion of our freedoms to the powers of corrupt leaders.

We are, indeed, deep in the alligator pit; and many of us are looking at the birds flying overhead.

God bless America. forgive us our disobedience and arrogance. In the name of Jesus. our Lord and Savior, I pray. Amen.

All the more reason to stock on heritage seeds now. Americans will manage to grow their own food if need be, government permission or not. Back yards (hidden among the flowers) or under growing lights in the basement. Canning our own food also. Buy cans now. We need to be ready for anything now.

YES. YES.

I wonder how successful we can be when there are roving bands stealing and breaking into the places where it appears they are not starving.

We need a Galt’s Gulch for mutual support and survival.

Any ideas? A fortress perhaps? A cave in the mountains? Make like the early frontier days? Very difficult to find a place. What with Goggle pics. GPS

Interesting to contemplate the possibilities. I do believe we can possibly do this short term ... after a few weeks or so .... what then?

She's got more “baggage” than Delta Airlines.LOL

She screwed up royally while senator and she “may be” dead meat in elective office.

The only thing the ‘Rats can hope for is to move back to the center...if they have any hope of continuing to be a national political party .
