Democrats resist subpoenaing records

WASHINGTON - House Democrats have declined to subpoena available records that might reveal whether other members of Congress got discounted VIP mortgages from subprime lender Countrywide Financial Corp. similar to the sweetheart deals given Democratic Sens. Chris Dodd and Kent Conrad.

Republicans say they are willing to risk that the records now held by Bank of America may show that GOP lawmakers were also "friends of Angelo" who got preferential terms on personal mortgages at the behest of then-Countrywide CEO Angelo Mozilo.

Countrywide, after losing billions of dollars on defaulted subprime loans that triggered last year's financial crisis and the consequent recession, was taken over by Bank of America a year ago.

Rep. Edolphus Towns, D-N.Y., chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said he has other work to do on the causes of and fixes for the financial crisis and will not interfere with other investigations of the VIP loans.

**SNIP**

It is unclear whether the Justice Department is still investigating Dodd, Conrad or the Countrywide VIP program.

This is just another example of libtard hypocracy and also shows the MSM’s culpability in all this crap.

The headline should read:

LOL - Chris Dodd just wants all this to go away. He’s finally in for the fight of his political life at home. I’m sure his constituents just loved it when he ‘bought’ a house and actually moved his family to Iowa in his joke of a run for President.

Seeking Senate re-election in 2010, the 2008 presidential candidate (he dropped out on the first day of voting after finishing seventh in Iowa, where he had moved with his family as a way of courting voters) is now in a bit of a sticky spot with another accommodation- his "cottage" on the lovely Irish island of Inishnee.
