Emotions ran high at the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival over the showing of Rachel, a film that looks at the International Solidarity Movement activist Rachel Corrie and her death in Gaza in March 2003.
The controversy had been brewing for some time, concerning both the showing of the film and the invitation to Rachel's mother, Cindy Corrie, to speak at the festival.
In the wake of protests against the showing of the film last Saturday, Peter Stein, the festival's executive director, invited Dr. Mike Harris, one of the leaders of the local Stand With Us chapter, to speak in order to put across his objections. Stand With Us is a pro-Israel advocacy organization based in Los Angeles.
In his speech Harris, to give some context to the film, talked about the spate of suicide bombings that took place leading up to Rachel's death. He referred to the other "Rachels" who died as a result of terrorist attacks preceding Rachel Corrie's death.
Harris was heckled throughout most of his speech. Cries of "not true" followed his accusation that the ISM had aided terrorists who took over Bethlehem's Church of the Nativity in 2002, and mocking laughter ensued when he said: "That's why the young IDF soldier was operating the bulldozer in Rafah... It was to destroy the tunnels used to smuggle explosives for murdering Israelis."
When Harris criticized the choice of sponsor for the film, saying the "American Friends Service Committee supports boycotts, divestment and sanctions against Israel," his words were followed by hoots of support for the AFSC.

The worst part is that they have chosen to villify the IDF, as if the Israeli military had "OPERATION FLAPJACK" on their itinerary. Feel bad for the soldier who unknowingly drove over Corrie, not for the idiot college kids brainwashed into thinking the IDF bulldozes the homes of innocent people.
Did he point out that Rachel Corrie’s parent met with Yassir Arafat, known terrorist, and received a plaque from him?
Still waiting for the agitprop documentary about any human shields who died while protecting Saddam Hussein’s munitions.
Recall that Americans openly engaged in treason by providing aid and comfort to the enemy in wartime by volunteering to serve as human shields. They claimed their interest was in protecting innocents but tyrannical thugs are going to serve their own interests.
AFSC are true monsters. They promote fascism in the name of God.
That's what liberals do best: Disparage contrasting opinions without using any facts or logic.
I thought it came out that Corrie was actually Mossad and was killed accidentally?
Or, maybe I’m thinking of a ‘Law & Order’ episode...

To give a logical reply, one must have the ability to LISTEN, which libs do not.
They don’t even have speaking skills.
All they can do is scream.
Pancake thread!

I think this is the picture you are thinking of.
The whole school is full of crazies. They had Mumia speak from jail for their graduation speaker, one year.

Yeah...."Evergreen" or something like that? I read an article on the town it's in recently. Talked about the "Culture and Diversity" that the college brought to the town. :-)
My impression is that it's a safety school, that gives "Safety Schools" a bad reputation.

For some reason I suddenly have a craving for IHOP.
I misread that at first. I thought they had gotten a plague from Arafat, which made sense.
I guess the audience response wasn’t flat..................
I think it’s spelled “STUPIDLY.”
OPERATION FLAPJACK” ROFLLMAO
OMG Funniest thread in a while. Thank you all.
Please excuse me while change and clean off my key board
That would be “Saint” Bunny
One of the by-products or traits of prolonged inbreeding.
Liberals, justifying stupidity with your tax dollars! No cognizant thought required
You’re referring to The Evergreen State College, and I am a graduate- 1988.
It was an interesting experience to say the least. Believe it or not, I considered myself to be a pretty far-left liberal when I started gong there, but quickly was outed as being far too right for many of my classmates. Oh, the stories I could tell.
But, I have to admit that most of the students who go there, REALLY care about their subjects, they are motivated, interesting, complex people.
It’s not all bad— and hey— it helped turn me into a conservative.
“If we pass the Stimulus Package, we will be able to finance hundreds of ISM Activists to go to Gaza. The resulting increase in demand for bulldozers to crush them all will enable Catapillar to call back many of the workers who were so recently laid off...”
UC Berkeley, here...
I know where you’re coming from.
“I can’t believe it’s not butter”
I take it the film was not presented in 3-D.
I was reminded of Rachel Corrie, last week, because her mother speaks for a group called, United for Peace and Justice. Evergreen exported the Peace and Justice Group to Western WA Univ. and we have had to listen to them rant, ever since.
Their latest efforts (besides sponsoring a talk by Cindy Sheehan, had to do with making Bellingham a sanctuary city for AWOL soldiers. It was led by an unstable veteran, named Evan Knappenberger, who made death threats against Michelle Malkin and Anne Coulter and then went on to abuse his wife. Peace and Justice stood behind him and claimed that he had PTSD, except no ever claimed that before he abused his wife.

Some guy mad at "city hall" tore up his town with it. Did a nice job too.
I think Evergreen has become a LOT more activist since I was there in the late ‘80s.
Now, THERE'S an idea. Maybe we can get Al Gore to stand out on the Bay Bridge during rush hour? Then again, if you are driving anything short of a Hummer when you hit him, your car might not survive!
that’s just not right...
very funny though...
but, just not right...
you put the FU in FUnny.
