Sarah Palin is pursuing the idea of a talk radio show, reports say, but thats not going to happen on Clear Channel, the countrys largest radio broadcaster.
Inside Radio reported earlier this week that Palins representatives were approaching radio broadcasters to see if the ex-Alaska governor could host a nationally-syndicated show.
Her lawyer Robert Barnett told the publication, Many individuals and entities have expressed strong interest in Governor Palin. To date, she has not spoken with any of them, negotiated with any of them or made deals with any of them.
But after the Inside Radio report, Paige Albiniak wrote on Broadcastingcable.com, My own sources say much what they said when asked about a TV show for Palin: Dont think so.
While it is natural to assume Palin would be a better fit for conservative radio than the less partisan world of syndicated broadcast TV, my sources say Clear Channel has already passed on her, Albiniak says.
She says the deal breaker for Palin is that radio execs doubt she would be able to maintain listener interest for three hours daily.
While some of her recent remarks may indicate a talent for improvisation, anyone whos listened to Rush Limbaugh
knows its the rare personality who can blab extemporaneously for 15 hours a week, Albiniak writes.

She would be terrible at talk radio...
I don’t even believe this story. Her lawyer issued a statement earlier this week that all of these reports about radio, tv, etc.. are not true. I’m so sick of these speculative reports which are not based on any truth.
I don’t know that she would be terrible at radio. I do know that people would LOVE to see her.
Her best bet is a daytime television show. There is always Fox News Channel on the weekends, as well.
I agree. The message she sends in a speech is important, her character is sterling. But her voice, not so much.
This would be a bad idea. How many policians thought they could do talk radio but found out they couldn’t? It’s not as easy as it seems. Besides, she should be SEEN. She ought to visit all the red counties in America, one by one, over the next two years.
My feeling too.
I love her, but a talk radio show would sink
her as a viable candidate for the Presidency,
or even Vice Presidency.
-—assuming that’s what she is ultimately aiming for-—
I know it’s what a lot of her supporters are aiming for.
With a two or three hour daily talk radio show, her detractors would see it as a treasure chest/archive of a million potential pieces of rope with which to hang her.
I agree. Her lawyer is the one to listen to.
Her lawyer Robert Barnett told the publication, Many individuals and entities have expressed strong interest in Governor Palin. To date, she has not spoken with any of them, negotiated with any of them or made deals with any of them.
100% unadulterated bullshit, designed to make it look like she is trying to “cash in” with the payoff being that they don’t want her. It’s always “sources who say”, no names ever named.
Not everyone has the skill to be a successful talk show host. It takes a lot of wind to fill up the time slot- even a little bit of silence just doesn’t work on the radio.
I would hope that Palin could get a contract for a series of short minute length programs- where she could discuss various policies and issues- on a daily basis, rather than a full length talk program.
Oh, so Rush is the “standard”? My arse. That’s quite a standard and it’s hypocritical. She couldn’t possibly be worse than Hannity, Quinn, Bauer and Rose. And she could easily be just as cutting and funny as Glenn Beck - without the emo and “cuteness”.
She'd be MUCH better as a regular susbstitute host for FNC's evening line-up: Beck, Hannity, Greta.
This reminds me of coaching searches, where a coach that has been told “thanks but no thanks” back channel calls a press conference to announce he has no interest in the job.
Rush is great at talking non-stop for 3 hours. However the crown would have to go to Art Bell. Only Art could talk about total BS and made it entertaining for 4 hours.
Exactly right. A talk show would be disastrous even if she did it perfectly. Given the skill with which the state-controlled media and others of the criminal element cut and paste and snip soundbites out of context, they would make her into an evildoer.
Hey BS media, “in honor of the American soldier, quit making things up”.
This is a silly idea. I Love Sarah, but it takes a talent to do radio.....
Ya dont just sit in front of a microphone and shoot the ****
You have to be able to punctuate and leave the pregnant pause... set up a segue way..
Then there is the entire technical side of being in radio to consider.....
Its not that easy folks.... Rush is a broadcast professional.
Laura Ingrahm has the technical side down but has a voice that leaves you wincing, but Damn it she knows how to produce a show.
I listen to Fred and Jeri Thompson from time to time and I love them but they are not radio professionals despite the fact that Fred has an astounding voice, professional credentials as an entertainer and a genuineness with Jeri that shines....
Levin is one of the few that has managed to make it work despite his voice..
(hitting a CART, while I organize)
Heyup
Rush is THE standard. He is a professional
You could have actually gave a reason or two as to why you believe this, but it's not important.
Sarah Palin would be magnificent as a radio personality. She is charismatic, engaging, intelligent, witty and contrary to the inaccurate opinions of some people in this article she could maintain interest for three hours.
Now, I'm no expert on the radio business, but I wouldn't have Sarah Palin on every day for three hours. I'd target the most listened to slots and air her either on several days for an hour or so or on Sat and Sun, and then later on in the eve of the same day replay the show.
Perhaps being in a studio isn't the answer either. How about a radio or TV show where Sarah is live but at a remote site? Something like a weekly, live American Town Hall with Sarah Palin.
And like all lawyer statements it says nothing. It does not say he are some appointed representative have not attempted to speak with. It says she.
Indeed. Art was cool and fun.
That's what I'd do. In produced segments like Huckabee does on radio.
In other BREAKING NEWS, my cousin Bob has turned down Sarah for next Saturday's Dance-a-thon, and a holiday getaway cruise to Bimini, citing potential conflicts with some dude called Dude.
Can't wait to hear Sarah's response. On second thought, I guess we all can wait. Ignore the disinformation.
Good point. Sarah isn’t entertaining the idea of Radio.
Radio producers are entertaining the idea of her.
It is interesting how her voice comes across when you can’t see her. I heard a few sound-bytes on the radio the other day and it wasn’t pretty. It may have just been the sound-bytes they played, but if you think of it her voice is pretty high pitched. I’m not confident that plays as well on radio as we would like.
You may have something there. She sure gave a hell of a campaign speech though. I say stick to TV and special events. I must say I'm saddened that she couldn't make this Reagan Library event. I bet she would have brought the house down.
Other than the possibility of subbing for Rush once in a while, I always doubted the radio talk show deal because it doesn’t seem geared toward Sarah’s personality. She draws huge crowds and that should be taken advantage of.
As far as what she’ll be doing, no specifics at all have come from Sarah or anyone speaking for her.
The rumors have all come through unnamed sources and this article is what that’s all about — get the rumor out there, then write nonsense articles about how she was rejected.
I’d rather see Our Sarah in the White House, cleaning up the horrible mess Zero and company will leave behind.
Whether it’s bullshit or not, my point remains. Sarah Palin is a heroic figure in many ways, but like George Patton, she has a high-pitched voice, and her accent grates after a few minutes when she is projecting. For an individual speech I can deal with it, but to listen to it three hours or even one hour a day would be too much. Same reason I find it painful to listen to Curtis Sliwa.
She should focus on TV not radio. Fox would be best—she has got to be better than Huckabee and his amateur band. With some good guests she could build a base. A weekday show to rival the View and give Conservative answers to the Obamanations coming out of the Beltway and its slobbering MSM. She needs to be in control of the operation and can rise and fall by her fluid personality. She can get people behind her with her uplifting message and we need this now more than anytime in the past.
Interesting that you brought up the sound of her voice. It is a valid point, especially if she were to do a radio show. I happen to like her voice, even when she’s being empathic. Then again, I love Laura Ingraham’s voice and I know some have complained about it also.
IMO, this story is pure crap!
“Levin is one of the few that has managed to make it work despite his voice..”
Good point! Levin has a brilliant mind and a good wit, so he overcomes the voice.
Tammy Bruce drives me mad, even if I agree with her sentiments. I can put up with Dr Laura Schlessinger, though many other people complain about her voice. Chacun a son gout, I guess. But even if Sarah Palin had a magnificent radio voice, I would hate to dilute the force of her words by having them on the airwaves 15 hours a week. No, Rush and certain other conservative talk-show hosts are doing a fine job. Sarah is unique; let her find a different path.
A spot of say five minutes daily much like the format of Paul Harvey would be her best shot. I can't see her doing the work of a one/two hour daily show will all the prep work that would be necessary to be successful. Book writing, child rearing, family matters, etc wouldn't allow it imo.
It takes massive talent, and wit.
One thing Mark has going for him from the start is wit.
And he has a speaking style despite his adrenalin delivery that leaves pause for thought.
I certainly concur with that sentiment. I am utterly sincere in my belief that she is the true political heir of Jefferson and Reagan.
Of course, Romney has bought out the GOP too, so you Palin fans should know what you have to look forward to...
His love for America is also clear, which never hurts with conservative listeners.
I gave an inscribed copy of “Liberty and Tyranny” to my Son as part of his graduation gift.
He wont read it today or tomorrow, but he WILL read it.
In part, the inscription said “let no man nor government separate you from the fruits of your labor”
“I gave an inscribed copy of Liberty and Tyranny to my Son as part of his graduation gift.”
There is nothing like a father’s love for his son.
Because lawyers never lie. /s
I believe it, primarily because Clear Channel didn't put out a statement denying it. This is material in two ways. First, if Palin isn't shopping herself, then Clear Channel wouldn't want this rumor to stand because they wouldn't want to alienate potential talent. Second, if they didn't care about alienating this particular talent, or if they'd already said, "No thanks", then they'd just let the rumor stand without comment. That's just how things work in the world of "big media".
“Id rather see Our Sarah in the White House, cleaning up the horrible mess Zero and company will leave behind.”
It’s gonna take Sarah to do it. Who else has the stuff it takes to get it done! No one!
Sarah 2012
I don’t believe this story. Not till Meg Stapleton says they got turned down.
I don’t want Sarah to do a radio show. She needs to do 3 minute commentaries, once a week, on politics and national issues. Just like Reagan did.
When I was a kid, we would be driving somewhere, and Reagan would come on the radio, and my father would turn it up, so we could all hear him. Since he wasn’t on that often, that made it special.
Even though Sarah is attractive, and the camera loves her (does she ever take a bad picture? It is rare) I don’t want her doing TV. She will get over exposed.
Huckabee has a show, and I watched it once.
As for Levin I think his voice helps make his show.
