Talk Radio Campaign Frightening Seniors
Washington Post ^ | August 1, 2009 | Ceci Connolly

Posted on 08/01/2009 7:58:30 AM PDT by La Lydia

A campaign on conservative talk radio, fueled by President Obama's calls to control exorbitant medical bills, has sparked fear among senior citizens that the health-care bill moving through Congress will lead to end-of-life "rationing" and even "euthanasia." The controversy stems from a proposal to pay physicians who counsel elderly or terminally ill patients about what medical interventions they would prefer near the end of life...But on right-leaning radio programs, religious e-mail lists and Internet blogs, the proposal has been described as "guiding you in how to die," "an ORDER from the Government to end your life," promoting "death care" and, in the words of antiabortion leader Randall Terry, an attempt to "kill Granny."

...like arguments about abortion coverage, has become a distraction and provided an opening for opponents of the president's broader health-care agenda. At a forum sponsored by the seniors group AARP that was intended to pitch comprehensive reform, Obama was asked about the "rumors." He used the question to promote living wills, noting that he and the first lady have them...

"I don't think it's about cutting costs; it's about quality," said Tia Powell, director of the Montefiore-Einstein Center for Bioethics. Pointing to extensive research, she said: "The good news is if you get people in an environment that is of their choosing, where there is support and they have good pain control, it is very likely to extend their life."...

The attacks on talk radio began when Betsy McCaughey, who helped defeat President Bill Clinton's health-care overhaul 16 years ago, told former senator Fred D. Thompson (R-Tenn.) that mandatory counseling sessions with Medicare beneficiaries would "tell them how to end their life sooner" and would teach the elderly how to "decline nutrition . . . and cut your life short."...

What she doesn't address, after raising it, in this long, pro-socialized medicine propaganda piece is the inevitability of the rationing of care, as is the care in Canadian and European government health systems, and that such rationing has inevitably fallen on the elderly and others deemed non-productive. There is also the unstated assumption that people who object to this, and to socialized medicine, are too dumb to know any better.

Good!

It’s true and not a “rumor”.

If one reads the bill, and then reads the opinions of people like Ezekiel Emanual who is advising the President and will likely end up being the commissioner if this monstrosity passes, the elderly in tis country have every right to be alarmed.

Here is a link to the full House Democrat Health Care Plan in PDF. In Section 1233 E & F, pages 426-433, you find the part about mandatory end-of-life counseling for anyone over 65 years of age. Section 152 Page 50: All healthcare services will be provided without regard to "personal characteristcs" which is not defined within the document but is understood to include immigration status.

Section 224 b Page 125: The Secretary shall design and implement the payment mechanisms and policies under this section in a manner that — (1) seeks to (B) reduce health disparities (including racial, ethnic and other disparities).

A lot more provisions now being documented at that site.

Donwload it, read it, study it, then hammer your reps over it and pass it on to all you know asking them to do the same.

Also, here's a large image of the Democratic (Obama) Health Plan chart-another Obama empty promise. This is the one the House democrats are censuring. Email these links or the image to everyone you know.

Obama and all those pushing his radical agenda are abject marxist ideologues. Their "fundamental; change" is nothing more than a destruction of the American free market and fundamental republican principle.

There was the press conference where Obama discussed hospices and pain medication as opposed to more expensive medical procedures for the elderly.

This is not fear mongering by talk radio, but typical, dishonest journalism by the Washington Post

.

...

Wesley Smith, an attorney for the International Task Force on Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide, said Obama’s focus on controlling costs and the legalese in the bill have contributed to the confusion. “People fear these counseling sessions will push toward less care because the point is to cut costs,” he said. The average cost of care for a chronically ill Medicare patient in the final six months of life is $46,400, according to Dartmouth University data.

(Of course it will! Obama is willing to kill the unborn and even DENY MEDICAL COVERAGE TO THOSE THAT SURVIVED A BOTCHED ABORTION - The Infant Born Alive ACt. If you think for one nanosexond that SUDDENLY he’s going to care about an OLD PERSON running up the bill - you’re terminally dumbed down. He won’t and they know it.)

...

After letting the controversy simmer on talk radio and the blogosphere, expecting that it might blow over, Democrats have begun to respond.

The allegations of mandatory counseling and euthanasia “are blatantly false,” Reps. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) and Sander M. Levin (D-Mich.) wrote colleagues. The accusations are “as offensive as they are untrue.”

LOL! They are wrong. The ugliness of the Obama care is TRUE.

It’s not talk radio scaring seniors -

what’s scaring them is the “health care” bill.

talk radio is merely disclosing the horrors in the bill.

...just sayin’

Good old Ceci blames talk radio and blogs (which most seniors must have scrupulously avoided all these years as they continued to vote Democrat) for the “misperception” that the Government Health Bill would be a life-threatening experience to seniors. She totally ignores El Presidente’s “better off with the pain pill” comments in one his staged Town Hall meetings. IMHO, the response to the lady with the 105 year-old, pace-maker equipped mother was what got the attention of the Gray Panthers.

Good, they or their children {caregivers/family} need to wake up out of their stupor before they have no healthcare/medicine/medicaid/medicare/private healthcare unless they can convince someone in government they deserve to live. And they thought they could retire in peace when they paid into the government programs all of their lives but we now have HOPE & CHANGE brought to you by a communist government coming to “ALL” towns near you.

The arrogance of that statement parallels BO's administration to a 'T'.

the counseling provision is a tiny part of a behemoth bill
You can say that about most or all of the provisions of this bill... that's what makes it a behemoth, you idiot.

"I don't think it's about cutting costs; it's about quality," said Tia Powell, director of the Montefiore-Einstein Center for Bioethics.

When the killers at the "bioethics(sic)" institutes talk about "quality," they are by design omitting any respect for "sanctity."

And of course the "bioethicist" is lying. It is indeed all about "cutting costs". Otherwise we wouldn't be having these discussions.

They’re going to take cancer drugs from seniors so they can fund abortions for 20 year olds... as well as a whole host of “holistic” procedures that don’t cure anybody of anything but have strong lobbying groups behind them.
