I always found it bizarre that people here, on a site that is supposedly for individual liberties, seem to love Singapore, a country that frowns on individual liberty.

Well 2 out of 3 dollars in our current system are already provided by the government. 2 out of 3 dollars come from the private sector in the Singapore system. So it is certainly a large improvement over our current government provided healthcare system and certainly increases the role of the market in healthcare decision making. Definitely a large step towards less government in healthcare.

Singapore ranks #1 on the Economic Freedom chart and their healthcare system exemplifies the power of consumer driven healthcare with government receding into the background. It’s really the only industrialized country that has a consumer driven healthcare system to this extent.

Singaporeans spend 3.4% of GDP on healthcare. In the U.S. we are throwing 15%+ of our GDP at healthcare and we aren’t even getting health outcome results on par with Singapore.

I, for one, would love to have a few thousand more bucks in my pocket AND reap the benefits of better healthcare AND take a giant step towards a consumer driven healthcare economy.
