I have first-hand knowledge of newspaper production from that era, including hours in the backshop.

In 1961, newspapers were still universally using hot type, not offset printing. Technology has changed. There is absolutely no way that lead type could have been switched between composition and printing. You’d have to have many people involved in the complicity, including the linotype operator.

After the switch to offset, with computer-printed type and paste-ups, it would be easy to do such a switch, but not in 1961.

Re: Frank Marshall Davis & Helen Canfield. When they were estranged in 1957, FMD told his friends that he was going to divorce Helen because she was “psychotic”. I forgot to include that tid bit in my earlier note. This is from an FBI file. Link above.

Thank you for your comment.

Recall, I did use the word IMAGINE. Now let us imagine a similar scenario - that took place BEFORE the pages were laid up?

The print-shop simply ‘lost’ the Nordyke announcement?

Been in many of those press rooms , had a friend who was a “stripper”. and an X who was an editor.

No way was it changed in the press room....Maybe taken from micro/ back to readable print...a photoshop think.

m’Lady, I have a more ominous scenario on his birth number and announcement. It is possible that a child of the family of six at the address in the paper had a child who died within the first year of birth and the forger chose the name of that family and it was replaced with ‘Mr. and Mrs. Barack Obama a son’ but the address was not changed.

If the oldest child of that family living at the time in the address listed for the Obamas is still alive (do you have the names of the children living at that address in 1961), that person would be only in the early to mid fifties. If they recall a sibling who died shortly after birth, we have a trail to follow! Could that be why the registry number is slightly higher than the Nordyke twins, because the child who died and was in the original announcement was born a few hours after the Nordyke twins?

I agree, and that’s why it was done recently. The actual Hawaii newspaper from that day showing Nordyke and not Obama will prove it. However, it won’t incriminate him, not will it incriminate Factcheck because neither of them got it themselves. The question is, who was the one that first asked for it? Before the blogger that sent it to Texas Darlin’ got it? Who was that person and why didn’t they expose it when they got it?

Yes, and see how the first name is spelled on that form...looks to me like Barak...not Barack. If that is the case why are the divorce papers different?

THIS IS FOR EVERYONE SO PLEASE READ:

For a year now I’ve been sitting here reading all of this research and it so often seems to come to a dead end. All too often it is because we have questions that can only be answered by being physically in Honolulu or Seattle. Now I would be very happy if you would buy me a ticket to go there with a list of questions but I know that’s not going to happen. We need a FReeper who is already there and can discretely go about finding answers. There is one named BIGLOOK (I think) who has posted frequently about Honolulu on the “long” thread and others but he may be too old to do the snooping around that we need. Is it possible that we could put a request on the main board or the chat board to see if there is someone in one or both of these locations that could do something like this? We could just ask, “Is there anyone in FR-land who lives in Honolulu or Seattle that would be willing to help us find some reliable answers regarding 0’s birth and early life that have come up in our research?” We could set it up so that rather than identifying themselves on the thread they could do a private message to someone like BP2. We could check them out to make sure they are not trolls and we could make a list of things we want to know and then give it to them privately. And then our someone, like BP2, could relay to us whatever information was found. For example, this person could find the microfilm or fiche (whatever)and take a good close up picture of the screen. They could also search for the Nordykes for the rest of the month of August and take pictures whether they show up or not so that we can get a better idea of what the page really looks like. They could also see if they can find an original copy of the real newspaer that may be on file at the library or museum or university. They could call the DOH and ask them about why “African” is listed on a COLB in place of race (not just Obama’s specifically but any COLB)and if it is for the parent’s birthplace, why they wouldn’t have filled it with the name of the specific country like they did for my dad on the one I got from Missouri. There are lots of other things like this.

Or is this a crazy idea? I think we all have enjoyed the hunt but it is getting wearisome when we keep going around in circles at times.

It looks to me like it could a very sloppy hastily written a,like it may have been kind of awkward to sign it at the time. Arrrgh! Why does everything have to be so complicated?

When I have to sign for anything that gets delivered to me my nice neat signature always turns out so terrible people would think it was a forgery.

Has nobody actually looked, in person, at the microfilm of the newspaper announcements? Did all this hubbub grow from one anonymous post on the Texas Darlin’ blog? Has anyone queried the morgue of the Honolulu newspapers to see if one might access original copies? They likely keep a bound set.

Do any mainland city libraries have Honolulu newspapers on microfilm?

Someone with access needs to LOOK.

No. That process didn’t come into widespread use until the early 1970s.

The Hawaii newspapers were almost certainly still using linotype machines and lead in 1961, along with everyone else.

Newspapers have what they call a “morgue,” where old copies are kept. In the past, the morgue was a place where clippings on many different subjects and people were carefully filed for access by editors and reporters doing research and getting background for stories they were working on. I’m sure that’s all done now by computer.

However, the papers almost certainly have bound copies of old editions. I don’t know if these would be accessible to the public.

I think I read that the people who lived at that address for over 40 years died (one or both of them) around the time of the election. Just like O’s white grandma. Hmmmmm.

I am almost sure I read way earlier in the thread that a couple of Freepers went to HI during the election and made the library rounds and had no luck. I don’t remember why there was no result. Anybody remember this?
