An Iranian plane crash two weeks ago – which left 168 people dead – was caused by the explosion of sophisticated fuses slated to be delivered to Hezbollah, Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera reported Saturday, quoting sources in the Middle East.
According to the report, the pilot of the Tupolev plane, which was making its way from Tehran to Armenia, sent an emergency warning 16 minutes after takeoff. Shortly afterwards, the plane crashed in northwest Iran.
According to the sources, the aircraft was carrying a large number of modern fuses composed of 2 kilograms (4.4 pounds) of explosives and electrical instrumentation.
The report is in line with testimonies on explosion sounds heard before the crash. According to the sources, the plane was meant to transfer the fuses from Iran to Armenia, and from there to Syria through Turkey, and then on the ground to Lebanon. This route was chosen, according to exiled opposition sources, so as not to draw attention.

A “fuse” with 2 kilos of HE? This is a firing device, meant to have enough punch to detonate much larger charges that need a good “kick,” including ANFO (ammonium nitrate/fuel oil), or artillery shells etc. IOW, terrorist bombs, such as IEDs.

Age itself may not be a problem - even older jets are in service around the world - but keeping them maintained is. Mohajer said Iranian airlines can't afford to keep even Russian planes in shape because of lack of government support.
He pointed to “the financial inability to buy new planes or carry out maintenance requirements.”
“Iranian airliners don't have enough cash even to buy new Russian planes. The government controls ticket prices. It's not profitable for airliners,” Mohajer said.

I’m not buying the engine failure story.
The regime has a history of transporting military equipment and dangerous contraband on civilian planes and also getting rid of ‘undesirables’ in plane accidents.
I don’t think IRGC were on the plane to visit their aunties in Armenia.

1)Maybe they weren’t. Maybe this was a ruse told to IRGC and/or others put on board by the regime to get them out of the picture.
2)Shipments directly from Iran passing thru Turkey have been stopped a number of times & fairly recently. Maybe coming from Armenia, they thought would be a successful route.

Iran is desperately trying to get a nuclear weapon because the fools actually believe that if their god is greater than the enemy’s god then they will develop the WMD first and be able to use it on the enemy.
It’s hard to counter that kind of religious reasoning. About the only way to do it is to show them early and convincingly just whose God is greater by sending them a nuclear surprise package.
I heard one expert on the region say using a nuclear weapon on them would prove to them their god isn’t all that powerful and would probably result in them abandoning their quest to get one to use first. Makes sense to me. I would one on them anyway, just to make them pay a price for 30 years of messing with us. But that’s just me.
Should we have a wager whether the AP, NYT or Rueters will jump on this one 1st? (sigh)

If the government controls ticket prices, then they can also force the airlines to carry packages for transport without an accurate manifest.
