The Obama Administration: Pursuing Zero Economic Growth?
American Spectator ^ | 8.2.09 @ 7:15AM | By Doug Bandow

President Barack Obama talks about restoring economic growth. But his science adviser, John Holdren, once called for zero economic growth while writing with Paul and Anne Ehrlich--who predicted mass starvation in the 1970s.

****

Admittedly, President Obama hasn't formally adopted this goal. But by putting the economy into hock and running up government borrowing, which even the Congressional Budget Office warns will crowd out private investment, the president seems determined to prevent a robust recovery. Maybe John Holdren will get his wish after all.

If the insane ideas they’re trying to push through get passed, we’ll likely end up with permanent zero growth, or very close to it.

Zero population growth was one of his 'wishes' as well. That means forced contraception and abortions. As far as economic growth. It has been negative and unless they fudge the numbers (lie) it will get worse for the immediate future.

Zero GDP with population growth (immigration, births, or both) is NEGATIVE growth per person.

"It is proper to take alarm at the first experiment on our liberties. We hold this prudent jealousy to be the first duty of citizens and one of the noblest characteristics of the Revolution. The freemen of America did not wait till usurped power had strengthened itself by exercise and entangled the question in precedents. They saw all the consequences in the principle [usurpation of power] and they avoided the consequences by denying the principle. We revere this lesson too much . . . to forget it." - James Madison

" . . . nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers, and destroyers press upon them so fast, that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon the American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour. The revenue creates pensioners, and the penshioners urge for more revenue. The people grow less steady, spirited, and virtuous, the seekers more numerous and more corrupt, and every day increases the circles of their dependents and expectants, until virtue, integrity, public spirit, simplicity, and frugality, become the objects of ridicule and scorn, and vanity, lusury, foppery, selfishness, meanness and downright venality swallow up the whole society." - John Adams

Further, it was not just the founding leaders who were well-informed about their constitution and approaching threats to its protections. By 1830, when the French jurist Tocqueville traveled America, he wrote admiringly of the citizenry, observing that even the backwoodsman was far more well-read and informed than those in other parts of the world, and that they understood their Constitution, and had with them a Bible and a newspaper. Today, with all modern means of communication, Americans possess little understanding of threats to their liberty and, thus, risk losing it to charlatans whose only goal is power.

Glenn Beck mentioned this the other day on his show — and this is an article from American Thinker from September 2008.

Check it out. It’s chilling:

He doesn’t want growth. Growth to him is a roadblock in implementing his plan. Fomenting unhappiness and unrest with the viable voting masses (i.e., Democrats, liberals, fascists, marxists, communists, illegals and those of ethnic persuasion). He needs to rouse these people to riot and to cry out for ‘more change’. The end result he is seeking is total domination and confiscation of all wealth and resulting consolidation of his domination over his new subjects.

I think president “I don't pay attention to the stock market” got a lecture by his mentors that the economic goose needs some fattener to lay some more golden eggs to achieve his ends. And the capitalists need a ray of hope to keep being useful tools for a while longer.

Hence the manipulation of the market to show faux growth.
