Two of three hikers being detained in Iran are Bay Area residents and freelance journalists.
Shane Bauer and Sarah Shourd, both UC Berkeley graduates, worked as freelance journalists affiliated with New American Media in downtown San Francisco, according to Sandy Close, executive director.

If they're this knowledgeable how could they have been so stupid as to wander into Iran???
Are they such moonbats they thought if they claimed to be Bushaters the Iranians wouldn't detain them???

What is it with hiking these days. First, Mark Sanford was hiking the Appalachian Trail, now these guys are hiking in Iran. What’s next, Joe Biden hiking at the North Pole?

Why am I not surprised. SF inhabitants, Berkeley grads, “working” as “free-lance journalists.”
So much for the Iranians’ contention that they’re CIA agents. About as much chance that Berkeley grads would be CIA agents as that they could flap their little wings and fly to the moon.

Isn’t that the same outfit that the two women journalists arrested and tried in North Korea worked for?

Most liberals assume that other countries watch their borders as diligently as we do (/sarc). The reality is that these hikers are very fortunate to be alive. In most arab-area places, an illegal border crossing will most likely get you stripped, raped, shot and left for the jackals.

Wasn't there ONE conservative at Berkeley back in 1973? That said, I'm with you - these fools are a bunch of liberals. Probably walked off to smoke some weed and got lost. Idiots.

“Are they such moonbats they thought if they claimed to be Bushaters the Iranians wouldn't detain them???” I doubt it even occurred to them that Iran would arrest them. Attending UC Berkley can give one a very warped world view. They probably think the whole thing is just a big misunderstanding with their Iranian brothers and that they will soon be released.

What an excellent opportunity to put his skills to work!
My guess is that he'll learn more about "Peace and Conflict Studies" in the next few days than in all of his Berkeley classes. He may want a tuition refund by the time he gets out of there.

UC Berkeley! Oh I'm so familiar with the place. This is truly poetic justice.
Ok my humanity is coming back. Yes I hope they are released but only after the Iranians have scared them half to death. These are the types of crackpots that deserve to be detained. Hiking in the area they were in is for fools. If you want to talk about stupidity, here you have it.
They should have stuck to hiking the Appalachian Trail. Wait that's the wrong coast. They should have stuck to hiking the Sierras.

Would prefer the Iranians keep them for at least the next couple of election cycles. Free them and they just come home and vote Democrat.

Hikers? That’s either got to be the worst cover story on record or these three have the lowest combined IQ test scores ever.
