400 Australian police arrest Islamic extremists planning to 'kill as many soldiers as possible'

Hundreds of police swooped on suspected terrorists in Melbourne early today amid fears suicide attacks were about to be launched on army bases in Australia.

Police from around the country were quietly moved to Melbourne before launching their raids on homes in at least seven suburbs.

Several men of Somali and Lebanese backgrounds were arrested and were expected to appear in court later on terrorism-related charges.

Plot uncovered: A hooded terror suspect is driven to Melbourne police headquarters this morning

Police sources said it would be claimed the men were planning to attack a barracks in western Sydney and other defence bases in Victoria.

The suspected terrorists were said to be plotting to force their way into the bases to kill as many soldiers as possible before turning guns on themselves.

The arrested men are believed to have links to al-Qaeda.

Sources said electronic surveillance on the suspects had picked up conversations about ways to obtain weapons to carry out what would be the worst terror attack on Australian soil.

The arrested men are said to be construction workers and taxi drivers living in Melbourne, but have Islamic backgrounds.

It is understood several men from the alleged terrorist cell have travelled to Somalia to train in the use of weapons with the terrorist movement al-Shabaab.

Al-Shabaab has been training suicide bombers and jihadist fighters in the hope of overthrowing the Somali government.

The organisation's aim is to impose a hardline form of Islam and regards the West as its enemy.

It has links with al-Qaeda, including the prominent figure Fazul Abdullah Mohammed, who is said to be behind the 1998 attacks on the American embassies in Tanzania and Kenya, when more than 200 people were killed.

Investigations into the Melbourne cell are believed to have started earlier this year -

This report is not believable because it is completely out of character for these chickensh*ts.

If the report had said they were going to blow up unsuspecting women and children on a public conveyance, I might believe it. But, to attack a military base where the targeted persons might fight back... well it's just not like them.

String them up by their toe nails...

When my grandmother would not sign for my underage uncle (the baby of the family) to enlist in NZ and go to WWII, he went to Australia and managed to enlist there..

He fought with the Diggers all through the war and then settled in Australia...

My cousins fought in Vietnam alongside Diggers...

My brother interacted with them in Naval exercises at Coral Sea days etc..

In my family only good things and appreciation were spoken about Australian soldiers..

Obama is concerned that the terrorists might not have been read their rights.

Will they learn their lesson and begin the mass deportations? I doubt it.

Thank God that the Democrats have worked tirelessly in this country to prevent the cruel and unjust violation of the freedom fighters civil rights, and that our horrible CIA has been lately straightjacketed to stop the flagrant monitoring of their phone calls!

Couldn’t agree more - Most of the Somalians and other Africans that have come to our country over the past few years have Christian heritage but the Guberment will not discriminate on that basis. Sadly most of the second generation Lebanese whether Christian or Muslim are nothing but trouble!

Maybe it was a slow news day. 400 police arrest 3 (terrorists). That’s odds of 125 cops per terrorist. Seems excessive to me. Maybe they are really bad terrorists?

Maybe they needed to stage another false flag operation to gain visibility for the department. No terror - no funding. Soon the entire country will be working for Homeland Security, TSA, FEMA, Northcom and on and on.

Next false flag operation up - the swine (H1N1) flu. You’re gonna love the mandatory injections and shortened lifespan. Worse yet kids and first responders are first up. The 1976 swine flu killed only one person. The vaccine killed scores and debilitated thousands. Could it happen again? Of course they planned it that way.
