Controversial Doll Lets Little Girls Pretend to Breast-Feed
FoxNews ^

A controversial new doll is leaving some parents wishing for the good old Cabbage Patch days.

A Spanish toymaker known as Berjuan has developed a breast-feeding doll that comes with a special halter top its young "mothers" wear as they pretend to breast-feed their "babies." The halter top has daisies that cover the little girls’ nipples and come undone just as easily as the flaps of a nursing bra would.

The doll — called Bebe Gloton, which translates as “gluttonous baby” — makes sucking noises as it "feeds."

I’m not sure what to make of this. Breast feeding is good for babies, the world frowns on it for some reason, why the named the baby “gluttonous” is beyond me. In the old days girls would have seen their moms breastfeeding their siblings ...

Probably better than an abortion doll.

This is sort of like those dolls and toy puppies that “poop”, it’s just weird.

Maybe it’s trying to show girls they aren’t just things to play with?

I can only imagine what the equivalent doll for little boys would be like.

It certainly wouldn't be the G.I, Joe we've all known.

Beats the hell out of the pole-dancer skank dolls.

I see nothing wrong with a doll that helps a little girl pretend to be a mommy.

The primary biological function of breasts is to feed babies. Our society has made them primarily a sexual organ with the feeding function considered tertiary at best and frankly a little wierd.

That’s says a lot more (negative) about our society than it does about breasts.

True, but biology also has worked things out so that they don’t develop as mmammary glands until puberty.

Would there be any problem with letting little girls be girls rather than trying to push them to be grown up, whether grown up in the sex-kitten vein or the Mommy-mammary vein?

They like to play at being Mommies, which is great. But let them play at being Mommies in little-girl ways. They’ll have plenty of opportunity later for the rest of it.

When my daughters were little, they would sit beside me while I nursed their younger brothers and cuddle their dolls or stuffed animals. Nothing unusual about that.

However, a slurping doll is just a little gross, imo.

Someone gave my daughter that doll for her birthday... In less than 24 hours it was confiscated...

I can see your point also, but as others have pointed out, in olden days and in most areas of the world today, little girls routinely see their mothers and other women feeding the little ones at the breast.

It’s certainly less bizarre than pretending to feed a doll with a bottle, which has been around for at least 50 years.

Doesn’t bother me, I’d rather little girls be encourage to embrace the fact they are female than the hate the fact they are.

They could make it even more realistic. The doll could start teething after a month or two.

We have babies and Barbie dolls. Only a few Barbies, though, mostly stuffed animals and plastic dinosaurs.

The primary biological function of mammary glands is to feed babies.

A woman’s breasts are a lot larger (usually) than needed for just that function.

A woman’s breasts ARE a sexual display that encourages face to face sexual intercourse rather than the usual and more anonymous ‘from behind’.

This is thought to strengthen the pair bond.

Where's the controversy? There's nothing wrong with breastfeeding. It's not sexual. It's a completely normal part of motherhood, just like changing diapers or putting baby to sleep.

And I bet some of the parents so offended by this doll probably see nothing wrong with sexualizing little girls with makeup, heels, and jewelry in those creepy kiddie beauty pageants.

And I guess it's no surprise that they chose to market the doll to Americans. Our teenage pregnancy rate is several times higher than that of Spain.

You *are* aware that Mexico and Spain are different countries, right?

Anyway, according to the numbers I referenced in my last post, Mexico's teen birth rate exceeds our own only by 11 per 1000 women aged 15-19. Not exactly a huge difference.
