(AP) - HIROSHIMA, Aug. 6 (Kyodo)—
Hiroshima Mayor Tadatoshi Akiba urged people around the world to join the city's effort to abolish nuclear weapons in response to U.S. President Barack Obama's appeal for a world free of nuclear weapons, as Hiroshima marked the 64th anniversary the 1945 U.S. atomic bombing Thursday.
"We support President Obama and have a moral responsibility to act to abolish nuclear weapons," Akiba said in the Peace Declaration at a commemorative ceremony at the city's Peace Memorial Park, reiterating Hiroshima's conviction that "the only role for nuclear weapons is to be abolished."
"To emphasize this point," said Akiba, "we refer to ourselves, the great global majority, as the 'Obamajority,' and we call on the rest of the world to join forces with us to eliminate all nuclear weapons by 2020. The essence of this idea is embodied in the Japanese Constitution, which is ever more highly esteemed around the world."

You’ve to figure that in Hiroshima, at least 90% of the population would be in favor of abolishing nukes. Therefore, it would be utterly amazing if the mayor did NOT at least claim to be in favor of abolishing nukes.
But a world with nukes has had its benefits. It’s been a more peaceable place. We’ve had no more world wars. When Hussein finishes his economic ruination of the US, we’ll still be able to defend ourselves so long as he doesn’t succeed in his plans to eliminate our single greatest deterrent.

I’m shocked that O passed up the chance to apologize at this year’s anniversary.
I’ll be attending the VJ Day Parade in Hillman, Michigan this Saturday (the county 4H fair takes place on the real VJ day this year and they can’t have competition for the tourist dollars) where there will be patriotic displays-—all Pro-American. Anti-Nuke protestors would probably not be too welcome.
