IBD Exclusive Series: Government-Run Healthcare: A Prescription For Failure
Discourse: At a town hall last week in Dallas, an elderly "mob" with "manufactured" outrage questioned AARP's support for nationalized health care, asking: "Do you work for us or do we work for you?"
But they were mad as hell at the perception that AARP was selling them out in the name of government-run medical insurance. That perception was not helped when the AARP town hall on the subject was shut down by the seniors outfit once the members dared to ask questions. The AARP representatives did not want to hear from the members at all. Just send in your dues, granny, and be quiet.
AARP denies being in league with the administration in pushing its medical insurance agenda. But as Mark Tapscott, editorial page editor for the Washington Examiner reports, that claim may be bogus despite a statement by AARP CEO Barry Rand in the July 31 issue that "AARP has not endorsed any of the bills currently being debated in Congress."
On Monday, Connie Hair of Human Events reported on a memo from Pelosi in which the speaker described the Democrats' plan to "partner" with AARP as part of a planned August recess PR blitz for government expansion of medical insurance. The fiasco in Dallas was an example of that partnership.

AARP should be marginalized into the bin of history. They are leftist socialists and communists. I refuse to join this cabal!! NEVER!!!
We can only hope that AARP is finally being exposed for the liberal organization that it is. This exposure is long overdue.
Right on the money and thank you!
AARP just lost me as a member.
Just ask the AARP for a list of political contributions they’ve made for the last ten years. Make it a short list, just ask for the list of Republicans they’ve contributed to.
They’ll never get a dime from me in my lifetime simply because they give money to “Handgun Control Inc.”.
I put everything I get from them immediately through my shredder
AARP is FULL OF CRAP, here is a website that THEY sponsor, which is full of lies:
What a great title!
I hate to admit it, but AARP has been sending me crap since I was 45, trying to soften me up. But I already realized, they are just giving away $3 off coupons on pizza, ice cream and movie tickets to get a place at the table in the beltway. F them.
What is the age to be a geezer?
I am approaching 52 and I do not have insurance...
I still do not want the government to take over...
my next birthday makes me a full deck without the jokers...
Obama wants to add the jokers!!
Those dang grey haired dissidents, at it again. What will AARP do to protect themselves against such rabble? I know, ignore them and leave the room.
Great business model. ;-)
I can't wait to get their latest mailer, What can we do to raise their postal rates by returning their junk...
Been doing this for years. Yet, they keep sending invites. They pay the postage so I dont care Im retired and have plenty of free time on my hands. ;-)
Mind your nouns. They ride on a Donkey! :)
I send it back unopened. I mark it ‘refused mail’. I believe they than have to pay the return postage costs. if so that is just a few less coins for them to contribute to the anti-second amendment orgs. and the anti-hunting groups.
Damn, I thought I was going to be the first to come up with the best solution.
I always shred the documents they sent, fill their SASE with the shreddings, then mail it back to them on their dime.
No way. Why would I even want to discuss anything with them?
I used to belong - as with many, for the discounts (and they are GOOD if you're traveling), but I sh*tcanned 'em years ago.....but I keep the card in my wallet.
If anybody even asks to see it when I inquire -- which is exceedingly rare -- I flash the long expired card and still get the goods. Ain't been busted yet.
But much worse,they are anti-gun.
Their directors dream of everyone buying only AARP endorsed products.
You know, until now, I knew what they were, but I just tossed their crap in the trash can. But to actually abuse us, not just use us, I may take up your return mail practice. Takes a little more time, but not much. :)
Did you ever wonder how they got your name and address in the first place, and knew not to send you mail when you were 16 years old?
That's what I do....let them pay the postage and take the time to open it
AARP are follwong the ACORN business model of getting a free billion dollar congress contract to run healthcare in violation of church and state.
It is obvious they are getting paid by a mobish kind of people of which the AARP has joined through such business models proposed by Marxists and all sorts of criminalizing misfits like the Nazies and what not.
They didn’t send any to you when you were 16??? I’ve been getting their CRAP since I Graduated from H.S.
and it causes you to smile knowing you’re irritating them when they open it and making them pay for it.
Hehe. Maybe you had a beard and moustache back then. Read the latest almanac, though, and AARP ranks far and away above every publication when it comes to circulation numbers.
Hmm, I could put something that is really heavy; like a brick in a package, glue the envelope on the outside. That would really cost them postage, wouldn’t it?
Sounds like a winner.
Fill the reply envelope with all your other junk mail without your address. Make it as heavy as possible to make it cost them as much as possible.
Here’s a video of the Dallas AARP “Town Hall”.
It’s obvious right from the start of the Dallas AARP video that the AARP female speaker came to lecture the AARP membership group.
The tone of the presentation is set right at the start when the speaker opens up by telling the crowd she is there to listen.
AARP: “You notice on the agenda we call it a listening session? That’s because we want to hear from you.....”
(That’s a good start - listening to the paid membership is smart.)
AARP: “I think we can all agree that the system we have now is not sustainable.....”
CROWD: “No we don’t agree!”
Then she basically told them to shut up. So much for the listening:
AARP: “Excuse me but I would really appreciate it if everybody could keep their comments quiet until there’s time for the public comments, we’re gonna’ have time for the public question and answers and I would appreciate some courtesy. Really!”
“This might be fun for you but that’s not what we’re doing today. We’re gonna’ try to do some communication.....”
And then the fun started.
I put all of their junk, and sometimes some of my other junk mail in their return envelope.
I bet the AARP is bleeding members.
There's the link to the video. Its amazing to watch. Anyone who says these people are "manufactured" and "organized" hasn't seen the tape. I'm a senior, living in a senior community ... those people could have been my neighbors. Just people with a "seasoned" point of view, not even yelling and screaming. IF you haven't seen it, the video is worth 5 minutes of watching. Amazing how people like these could be "demonized" and said to be "carrying swastikas" ... the left is really getting scary. And what is left of the "greatest generation" once again looks like it is showing the way. Made me very proud to be a senior (and yes, I'll be there in DC on Sept 12th!) I may not walk as fast as many of you here on FR, but wave to me as you pass by! I'll be the gray haired fellow carrying the Sons of Liberty Vertical 9 stripe flag. :-)
Fill the envelope full of junk. They are charged according to the weight. A few years ago I worked at a business and we were charged a $1 for the business reply envelope and $.23 for each extra ounce, so make it heavy.
I've already sent the White House "fishy" articles regarding shark attacks in Louisiana and recipes for blackened orange roughy.
Attacking the INSURANCE Industry is a benefit to AARP, as they are now in the insurance business through a NY Insurance company...some ads on tv.
It’s in their flyers...car, health, life, motorcycles etc...they don’t expect to need the elderly much longer. It would be great if their buddy can’t destroy the insurance companies, and the elderly abandan AARP.
They mess up now and again. Shortly after I received the Purple Heart I began receiving their mailout..... some stuff directly pointed toward veterans..... I was 23 at the time! I let them know that it probably wasn't too smart to assume everyone with a PH is Vietnam age. I stopped receiving their junk mail shortly thereafter.
All they have to do is quite AARP and go here:
