....Platinum has replaced or laid off six of the Union-Tribunes top eight managers since taking over, and it cut 18 percent, or 192 people, of the staff three days after the deal was completed. It has also hired consultants to monitor the productivity of reporters and editors and is looking to rent out the top two floors of the newspapers headquarters.

I agree. The value of newspapers in today’s realm of information technology is finally being whittled down to what they are really worth.

I note one comment on there:
>>75% of Boston Globe management might be layed (sic) off?
18% of the Boston Globe workers might be layed (sic) off?
Outstanding! Maybe the leftists at the Socialist Newspaper of Record will begin to understand what life is like in the real world - produce a product that people want to buy, or get a rude awakening!
Indeed—sim. to the folks who wanted to foist libtalk on us by force w/ Fairness Doctrine. Guess what: if you do a good job and there is demand for your product, then fine. If not, you go out of business—but they wanted the govt to force libtalk on the air and bankrupt radio companies when the ratings plummet (many would rather change format and
not do talk at all!)
...or should the govt. bailout the Boston Globe...?
