Now Hiring: Everywhere You Didn't Want to Work [Thanks Democrats, Congressional Majority been 3 Yrs]

People who have been out of work for months are lining up for jobs at places they once considered unthinkable: slaughterhouses, sewage plants, prisons.

"I have to just shut my mouth because I can't do anything about it," said Nichole McRoberts of Sedalia, Mo., who pictured more for herself at age 30 than working in a poultry plant, cutting diseased or damaged flesh off chicken carcasses.

Recessions and tight job marketsalways force some people to take less-desirable or lower-paying work than they are used to. But this recession has been the most punishing job destroyer in at least 60 years, slashing a net total of 6.7 million jobs.

All told, 14.5 million people were out of work last month, with a jobless rate of 9.4 percent. The result is that many people have had to seek jobs they would not have considered in the past.

The desperation of the long-term jobless has rippled through the labor force. More skilled and educated workers have filled clerical or restaurant jobs. So unskilled workers such as teenagers or high school graduates who once held most of those positions have displaced those even lower on the economic ladder, such as immigrants, Freedman noted.

The intensified competition has hurt all workers — even those who are still employed — because it shrinks wages. Employers don't have to pay more to lure workers.

That helps explain why personal income fell 0.1 percent in June, excluding the one-time benefits of the government's stimulus program. Wages have fallen each month since October — a total of 5 percent over the past eight months.

Indeed, many people who have had to downshift to unsavory jobs have found they're now earning less, too.

The Democrat Majority Congress are responsible for about 6 million job losses since they took over, and they have done nothing to 'grow the economy' in the 3 years since winning the Majority in 2006

Start your own biz. Apple sales I hear will be in big demand in the Obama economy. Be self employed and your own boss. Also pencil sales and marketing should be good.

Again, these figures do not take into account those who have stopped looking for jobs

Americans - doing the jobs foreigners don’t want to.

Thanks Obama and globalism for selling our ability to make anything down the river.

ZOMG! You mean people might have to take jobs that are not fun? Oh the humanity! Where are we going as a society when people have to take jobs that are not fun in order to pay the bills?

I keep running into people who were obviously executives in a previous life, now working at humble positions. What’s fascinating is the energy and efficiency they bring to positions that are usually held by the indolent and unambitious. Things work SO WELL with such people in the office/stockroom/assembly line/back office. It explains so clearly why, in a normal economy, some people rise to the top like cream.

Hey good idea. How about washing car windows on street corners or selling copies of your local Pravda at streetcorners. Obamanomics.

Thanks Obama and globalism for selling our ability to make anything down the river.

I should amend my comment - Obama, unions, and globalists sold our nation's infrastructure and manufacturing capability for a mess of pottage.

We will soon be a nation of two castes: those who work for the government and unions and have double-dip pensions, and the rest of us, who work what honest jobs are left and have thick-necked, shaved-headed goons watching us to make sure we don't get out of line and wonder aloud why we should pay for their wages and benefits.

Funny how much union goons look like skinheads.

Get with it. Nobody uses pencils anymore. Mouse sales is the place to be. :)

Some of the prisons pay pretty good money. But for the slaughterhouses, wasn't that where all the Illegals were working? I guess they've all headed back to Mexico!

There are times when I think people who believe that certain jobs are beneath them are one of the contributing causes in this recession.

McRoberts spends evenings searching the Internet for other openings, but they are scarce.
"Until things start booming again, I can't go anywhere else," she said.

I wouldn't count on things "booming again" anytime in the near future...

Yep and your overhead is nothing. Just go to your local public housing and you can catch all the mice, rats and cockroaches you need.

Of course why anyone would want those things is beyond me but in retail "the customer is always right".

Those use electricity provided by fossil fuels that create Carbon Dioxide that will incinerate the planet. Pencils will replace computers in a year or so if Obamanomics is passed. It will be a great business opportunity and sales will be “better than expected”.
