Personally, I have thought for years that most police chases should be banned.

Yeah, that's right. Let them go. They are just lawbreakers.(/sarcasm)

7 people died because some idiot thought he/she could outrun the cop(s) and drove into a busy intersection without stopping, CRASH. You can commiserate and whine about it, but the facts aren't available, are they? Maybe the van was loaded with drugs? Maybe it was just carrying illegals. Inquiring minds don't really care a whit when idiots take themselves out. The unfortunates who were with them also paid the price, but the cops weren't the reason! Running away from the cops was...

Next!

The police have a duty to apprehend in a manner that is safe for the public. For example, a policeman might really want to shoot a fleeing suspect but he should not fire if it occurs on a crowded sidewalk and many (or even just a few) civilians are going to get caught in the crossfire.

These children got caught in the crossfire. Crossfire is a two way thing.

Maybe the van was loaded with drugs? Maybe it was just carrying illegals.

Is that worth 7 lives? Is it ok for the kids to die if it's about illegals? I don't think so. Maybe for the drugs /sarcasm

There is a smarter way than mashing the gas pedal with no regard for the citizens, whom one is paid by, to protect and serve.

How does chasing criminals at high speeds through streets crowded with innocent motorists and bystanders either "serve" or "protect" them? The guy(s) being chased showed only as little concern or regard for innocent lives as did the cops involved in the chase.

The difference is, the cops are supposed to care. They are paid by those innocents to care. To behave without due regard for that fact is an abject abrogation of their sworn duty.

What is the worse outcome, in your inobvious wisdom: a traffic violator gets away scot free, or innocent people are killed making sure they don't get away?

Get real, meatface.

The patrol says Dinuba police were trying to stop a car Saturday afternoon for a traffic infraction.

The cops themselves say they were after the car for "A TRAFFIC INFRACTION." You can make up any story you think will justify 7 deaths, but the facts, as stated by the cops, are these people died because the city wanted the fine money.

Back before my cousins retired from the State Police they used to say there was no excuse for most high speed chases because the bad guys couldn't out run the radio.
