In dozens of mountain hamlets in this remote corner of Afghanistan, opium addiction has become so entrenched that whole families — from toddlers to old men — are addicts. From just one family years ago, at least half the people of Sarab, population 1,850, are now addicts.
Afghanistan supplies nearly all the world's opium, the raw ingredient used to make heroin.
"I am ashamed of what I have become," says Beg, an unwashed turban curled on his head. "I've lost my self-respect. I've lost my values. I take the food from this child to pay for my opium," he says, pointing to his 5-year-old grandson, Mamadin. "He just stays hungry."
He once had 1,200 sheep. He sold them off one by one to pay for drugs.
"Opium is our doctor," says Beg. "When your stomach hurts, you take a smoke. Then you take a little more. And a little more. And then, you're addicted. Once you're hooked, it's over. You're finished."
From a single smoke, they progress to a three-times-a-day habit that spreads. When Beg began using opium, it wasn't just his wife and daughter who followed suit. It was his brother. Then his brother's wife. Like an epidemic, it makes its way across the village.
Health workers say that to treat the addiction, they need to treat the entire community. Last year, the Ministry of Health took 120 addicts from Sarab to a facility in a town one day's drive away to be treated. Three months later, they found that 115 of the 120 had relapsed.
In Sarab, villagers who are not addicted keep their distance from those who are. They don't invite them into their homes. They discourage them from coming to village meetings. It's as if they are trying to quarantine themselves.

Try to imagine a drug that the first time you smoke it gives to the most wonderful feeling of exhilaration, ecstasy and euphoria and also makes your troubles vanish for several hours after you smoke it and than imagine that to gain access to it all you have to do is go out in your back yard and pick a pretty flower.
Never understood how Muslims can see alcohol as a tool of the devil and yet justify smoking any sort of drug just because it’s not specifically banned in the Koran.
One time in the Middle East I had an Arab guy lecturing me about my glass of wine at the same time he was sucking down lungfuls of hashish.
I will take the wine any time.

Ummm.., in this particular respect, it would seem that “we” (as a society) are just as duplicitous as they are... I mean, lecturing them about one drug when “we” are talking another drug (legal and/or the non-legal).
Better to not take any of them at all...
However, the *real problem* with those Muslims — is the following...
For all o’ y’all... you gotta see that “demographics” one, for sure...
That evil and oppressive governmental idealogy of Islam and the way of implementing it by Sharia law is already making inroads right here in this country — the good ole USA. We’re about to see a “takeover” of the U.S. by the evil and oppressive idealogy of the government of Islam (that is aiming for world-wide conquest and has stated that the U.S. is *on its list* to take over...)

There’s no question about it... the enemy is *Islam* itself and the evil and oppressive and false idealogy that it perpetrates. Some say the problem is “fascism” (instead of the basic oppressive governmental idealogy of Islam, itself). But, that is to engage in “political correctness” and nothing more... and sidetracks people from the *true enemy* in this war.
In one generation we’ll see, right here in the United States that “Islam” is the enemy and not “fascism”...

I'll say the same thing about society as well. But I don't blame society on issues of personal choice. It would be a cop-out or self-deception at best
Islam doesn't have a monopoly on duplicity but they are the masters of it.
Well, of course, our own people have been telling us this lie, too... that it’s a religion of peace, besides the lying Muslims themselves, trying to say this. Everyone should know by now, that it’s not — I hope.
As far as a jihad, these Muslims have been “at it” for about 1,400 years, and have had three major pushes of “jihad” over that period of time. This is, presently, the third big push — and, as one can see by the demographics, they do have the *numbers* backing them up this time — and are destined to take over the world, no matter how many of us know they are lying through their teeth...
The U.S. will *fall to Islam* in about a generation (or maybe two) and it’s purely the “numbers” from demographics that tell the story. We’re “abortioning” ourselves out of existence and the Muslims are taking American women, turning them into baby/Muslim factories... just another generation and that’s it for the USA...

I sent an e-mail to Sears stating that having a muslim behind the register is offensive to me. Their religion tells them to covert or kill us. Why would I want to shop where people hate me?

Well, I understand that. And we’ve got a *really big problem* here, with that “Demographics” that is shown on that video I included. Once you see that, you’re gonna do more than scream, sometime in the future. You’re going to be controlled and ruled over by Muslims under Sharia law — right here in the USA.
And I don’t think anyone is going to do anything about it... (at least I see no signs of anyone doing anything about this happening...).
It looks like this is what is coming down the pike, unfortunately...
