Government Medicine Should Horrify Americans
Real Clear Politics ^ | Aug 7, 2009 | Deroy Murdock

Imagine that your two best friends are British and Canadian tobacco addicts. The Brit battles lung cancer. The Canadian endures emphysema and wheezes as he walks around with clanging oxygen canisters. You probably would not think: "Maybe I should pick up smoking."

The fact that America is even considering government medicine is equally wacky. The state guides health care for our two closest allies: Great Britain and Canada. Like us, these are prosperous, industrial, Anglophone democracies. Nevertheless, compared to America, they suffer higher death rates for diseases, their patients experience severe pain, and they ration medical services.

Look what you're missing in the U.K.:

* Breast cancer kills 25 percent of its American victims. In Great Britain, the Vatican of single-payer medicine, breast cancer extinguishes 46 percent of its targets.

* Prostate cancer is fatal to 19 percent of its American patients. The National Center for Policy Analysis reports that it kills 57 percent of Britons it strikes.

* Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development data show that the U.K.'s 2005 heart-attack fatality rate was 19.5 percent higher than America's. This may correspond to angioplasties, which were only 21.3 percent as common there as here.

* The U.K.'s National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) just announced plans to cut its 60,000 annual steroid injections for severe back-pain sufferers to just 3,000. This should save the government 33 million pounds (about $55 million). "The consequences of the NICE decision will be devastating for thousands of patients," Dr. Jonathan Richardson of Bradford Hospitals Trust told London's Daily Telegraph. "It will mean more people on opiates, which are addictive, and kill 2,000 a year. It will mean more people having spinal surgery, which is incredibly risky, and has a 50 per cent failure rate."

Bottom line it doesn't take a genius to figure out that you are going to have to cut certain services to insure 50,000,000 (with no reciprocal increase in supply, in this case doctors/nurses) and pay for a near 2 trillion dollar overhaul. The focus should not be so much what is in any bill, which many times are the good intentions of people dedicated to public service (benefit of the doubt), but should be those unintended consequences that inevitably happen. Not trying to scare people but there are things called actuary charts and they were developed for a reason. Do not whistle past that graveyard and think that something as arcane as being denied treatment could not happen in the US due to age and percentages on a chart.

I have to disagree with you there. This administration knows exactly what they're doing with this bill. They're fully aware of the results of nationalized health care.

But it’s sure great for weight loss.

I haven’t weighed 98 pounds since I was 12.

Much truth to what you post. The whole month of October I was sick. After the election, I was probably in a daze for a month or two and then after the stimulus and cap and tax, I haven't been able to see straight.

Maybe we should come up with a name for our condition and see if we can get some disability. Obamatosis or something like that.

I wish.

My health and strength have declined to a perilous point, ever since that evil freak got nominated.

I swear, if one more person says “Worrying does no good. There’s nothing we can do about it” I’m gonna slap ‘em.

I DO NOT accept that there’s nothing to be done.

This is AMERICA, land of the free and home of the brave.

What ~happened~ to us?

If I didn’t have certain FReepers praying for me all the time, I think I’d be dead already.

My doc is so worried about my weight and anxiety levels that he wanted me to “talk it out” with a psychologist.

She’s a DEM...what good is she going to do me?

*BUMP*! --

For this blatant NWO conspiracy unfolding right before our eyes.

Something is wrong when ABC News introduces a commentator by saying, 'He serves on the Counsel on Foreign Relations.' News media do not introduce members of the Trilateral Commission or The Bilderbergers. But as the NWO agenda unfolds with health care, perhaps they will. Health care will be used to terminate American lives before their time. You can count on it.

In the UK they have set 3,000 as the the total number of steriod injections for back pain. Take that example and put it in the context of our political system and the corruption of Zippy’s fundraising machine. I’m sure I don’t have to connect the dots for you.

If I had to theorize on the conspiracy it would all evolve around climate change, which is the new religion of the left. If you believe in global warming, the only way to control it is through draconian measures, not by merely cutting emissions or changing light bulbs. The only way is through population control. We would literally have to half the world population in a generation. How would you do that? By rationing health care and through serious population control.

Better hope you never end up on the enemies list or it is strictly over the counter meds for you.

"This administration knows exactly what they're doing with this bill. They're fully aware of the results of nationalized health care."

Which is- "the needs of the few outweigh the demand for quality and service by the many".

"The needs of the few outweigh economic viability and sustainability".

In the end, Socialist government empire building and the costs associated with it end up costing far more than actually paying the bill for those without insurance who need medical services.
Voluntary charitable donations, which in a society that maintains good Christian moral standards, end up paying for a very large portion of the needs by legitimate sick and poor and needy.

Socialized medicine in which the lazy and unwilling to work are covered by the taxpayer quickly become plagued with abuses to that system. Emergency rooms become packed with new single mothers bringing their babies in every time they get a sniffle or runny nose, older people who think every ache and pain is a symptom of cancer and they are going to die.

Addicts are constantly cruising emergency rooms trying to score prescriptions for opiates, as are drug dealers.

Limited socialized medicine sounds like it can work on paper, but it requires honesty to do so, honesty from those who administrate and administer it, and honesty by those who use it.
Because when these is something being offered "free", there will always be those who swarm in to get their "entitlement" share, as there are sharks hoping to cash in by providing cheap very little for a very lot of taxpayers money.

Then there are those who think they are entitled to everyone elses money, and demand more and more "free" services, and higher quality than those paying for the "free" services these greedy leaches are using can afford for themselves.

Abuse and dishonesty quickly spirals socialized medicines costs far out of control, far exceeding the costs of private insurance structured health care.

There are easy solutions to some of the problems that are making private insurance health care costly. But for some reason DEMONRATS have refused to even look at these solutions.

This tells us that democrats never were interested in providing quality health care to those who legitimately need it. Democrats are only after more government, more control over the people, larger government and less freedom.

I do not for one minute believe "they" believe in globasl warming. They see the means to more power for themselves and subjugation for us in promoting GW. Look at Gore--a couple mil to over 100 mil in about 8 years per GW. Look at the rate the elite (our self serving masters) make carbon footprints.

What gets me is this---if these short sighted idiots succeed in destroying our economy, Constitution, and killing off both old and young--why don't they realize they will have NO basis for their leadership after America is destroyed. Are they so naive they believe emergent countries with growing economies and birthrates will actually allow them to stay in charge of ANYTHING?

Dear Bro . . . Bro?

I understand your FEELING.

It may be wiser, however, to note that feelings are . . .

‘merely’ information. They can be important information but they are merely information. And, they can be wrong information.

They make tolerable SERVANTS

and horrible slave masters.

In this current era . . . imho. . .

God is determined to INSURE that all flesh understands that the

ARM OF FLESH

particularly on its own, AVAILS NOTHING. NOTHING LASTING.

NOTHING LASTINGLY SECURE.
NOTHING LASTINGLY SAFE.
NOTHING LASTINGLY WONDERFUL.
NOTHING.

THAT GOD ALONE IS OUR STRENGTH, OUR ALL SUFFICIENCY, OUR SOURCE . . .

ALL ELSE WILL BE TRIED BY FIRE . . . WOOD HAY AND STUBBLE WON’T CUT IT.

EVEN PATRIOTISM in behalf of our beloved Republic will be insufficient.

The Scriptures are clear that the evil doers will reign for 7 years and certainly even the birth pangs toward that will not be a fun cake walk.

NOTHING will change that.

PRAYERS AND WALKING WITH GOD CAN CHANGE SOME THINGS FOR THE EARNEST BELIEVERS SEEKING AND WALKING CLOSE TO GOD.

There will be NO saving of any organization or structure of man by man.

NONE.

I believe God will preserve whatever’s left of the USA at some point and resurrect it AFTER LITERAL ARMAGEDDON.

Until then, buckle seat belts.

The truth is simply the truth.

Pretending is not a good survival habit.

Only God can provide the peace in the midst of the fiery furnace; the Peace that passes understanding.

This thread speaks well to the issue, imho, that are looming even for believers:
