Health Care: There might not be a "death panel," as Sarah Palin described it, but federal bureaucrats will be making end-of-life decisions. That's why state-run medicine is a leading cause of death in Britain and Canada.
"The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their 'level of productivity in society' whether they are worthy of health care," Palin wrote.
"Such a system is downright evil."
Former Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean's response was, "She made that up." Oregon resident Barbara Wagner might beg to differ as she begs to stay alive. Last year, the 64-year-old received news that her cancer, which had been in remission, had returned. Her only hope was a life-extending drug that her doctor prescribed for her.
The problem was that the drug cost $4,000 a month. The state-run Oregon Health Plan said no, that it was not cost-effective. Oregon's equivalent of a "death panel" sent her a letter saying it would cover drugs for a physician-assisted death. Those drugs would cost only $50 or so. Oregon could afford that.

Wow! There’s a thread title that deserves a BUMP!
So, Sarah Palin was wrong in IBD's assessment, but they agree with her?
What sort of deranged logic is this? Was she insufficiently nuanced or something?
These people are drunk with power and control.
Their pronouncements and actions are like every other repressive, tin-horn regime in history. Label the opposition with exactly what they themselves are doing and then use the government controlled and co-opted press to spread that lies, and then use their thugs to try and enforce it and stamp out dissent.
Well, not any more in this country. The health care debate has blown the lid on it and it's time to carry it through on this issue and every other similiar issue (like Cap & Trade, FOCA, etc.) that these wanna-be tyrants propose.
President Barack Hussein Obama said on AUgust 7, 2009, that he expected the people who caused the financial and health care mess to be quiet, stand out of the way, and let it be fixed. Well, Mr. President, if you do not want the people who created this mess standing in the way of fixing it. Okay, then you, Mr. Obama...and Pelosi, Reid, Dodd, Frank, et all had best step out of the way yourselves because you not only helped engineer the problems that ensured the fiasco...you are now intent on making it immeasurably worse in your drive towards abject marxism.
In order to hide this, and in an effort to push their monstrosity Health Care, the liberal-left and Obama seem intent on turning the frustration and angst of the American people over his policies into something more akin to Iran over this issue, with their own Basij thugs sent out to silence us, and Obama supporters called on by the Whitehouse to report any dissent.
Despite all this, the American people are downloading the Dem Health Care Plan HERE and elsewhere and educating themselves.
They are also reading the cited quotes of the main architect of the plan and Chief Advisor to Obama on Health Care HERE and elsewhere, and seeing the context of the plan from the designer of it.
So, when Sarah Palin callis it evil, they know for themselves that she speaks the truth.
So they continue to take their feelings...and their own documentation...to their reps and gett in their faces about it.
...and on the lighter side, take your mind off the Obamanation for a few minutes and enjoy some beautiful Western US scenery slideshows.
“There might not be a “death panel,” as Sarah Palin described it, but federal bureaucrats will be making end-of-life decisions.”
I guess they would prefer we call the “federal bureaucrats making end-of-life decisions” the lollipops and sunshine panel then.
“That’s why state-run medicine is a leading cause of death in Britain and Canada.”
The article doesn’t really clarify how one can come to this conclusion. The only thing I can imagine is that it’s assuming that all deaths in a country can be attributed to its medical care system.
Eugenics lies at the heart of the progressive movement. ....as has been for about a century.

ATTENTION FELLOW TEXANS
NEWSFLASH! GOVERNOR RICK PERRY IS SCHEDULED TO BE ON PLAINS RADIO MONDAY, AUGUST 17 FROM 7-8 PM CST TO DISCUSS
OBAMA DEATHCARE AND TEXAS INVOKING THE 10TH AMENDMENT OVER IT.
If what you say regarding yourself is true, your imagination, unfortunately, is not equal to conceptualizing the realities of this situation.
Please notify me via FReepmail if you would like to be added to or taken off the Oregon Ping List.
Sounds like a Death Panel to me. Sarah speaks plainly to the heart of the manner without Washington Speak.
This shows that she is well grounded and not that she is miss-informed. She knows exactly what she is speaking about and isn’t confused in the least.
Sarah can still take this country by storm is she can just connect with the American People in a personal way that the MSM can’t disrupt.
“but federal bureaucrats will be making end-of-life decisions. That’s why state-run medicine is a leading cause of death in Britain and Canada.”
imo, that IS a “death panel.”
If you read page 428 of HR 3200, it has end of life counselors bustling in to “inform” people or their proxies in case of a life-threatening accident or disease - - not just old folks.
Just picture these Deatheaters swooping in when a family has just learned their loved one has been in a major accident. Maybe they’ll even be out in the field hospitals in Afghanistan.
Read it again. The mortality rates for breast and prostate cancer that are discussed make it pretty clear.
