Cape Town - Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe is stockpiling arms and ammunition and preparing for war, the Democratic Alliance warned on Thursday.... ..."Mugabe is [also] talking to Venezuela, Cuba and Korea to fund a war-chest in preparation for the referendum and election, following the implementation of the global political agreement (GPA) brokered by former president Thabo Mbeki on behalf of SADC."... ...James said Mugabe and his Zanu-PF party appeared to be "mobilising for war against their own citizens"....

Really? His own people? Who would have thought he would harm his own people?

One of the worst means of trying to end inflation and turn an economy around, and usually just a delay of the eventual crash needed to correct an inflationary bubble.

It’s hard to believe that South Africa would help supply him.

Venezuela, Cuba. Much the same grouping as with Honduras. Where is Obama when a tyrant needs him?

South Africa is, I believe, hurting for solid currency, which a robust arms trade provides. I think that’s the angle, but not sure.

“Where is Obama when a tyrant needs him?”

That’s a good question. Judging by his response to leftist dictators so far......

Most arms deals are economically motivated yes. Zimbabwe is in shambles though. It doesn't make a lot of sense for them (South Africa) to indirectly foment an armed conflict in a border nation with so many problems. The displaced refugees are already an issue. More weapons don't seem to be any part of the solution.

Right you are. But I’m still seeing a money trail leading somewhere. Why, for example, is our own congress so insistent on Cap & Trade, Nationalized industry and health care? None of that makes sense. But the money.....Somebody is rakin’ it in and the good of the country is not much in consideration. Could it be the same in S. Africa?

Mugabe's forces are approaching, commander. What should we do?

Lay down a barrage over their heads.

What munitions, sir? HE? beehive rounds?

No, use food.

Food, sir? Did I hear that right? You want to bombard them with food?

You betcha, soldier. Mugabe's troops will drop their weapons and gorge themselves into a stupor. We'll round them up without firing a shot in anger.
