This afternoon, President Obama awards Senator Edward Kennedy a Presidential Medal of Freedom – the nation's highest civilian honor. According to a spokesman, Kennedy will not attend the ceremony -- his oldest child, Kara Kennedy will accept the award for him. Also present will be his other children, Ted, Jr. and his wife Kiki, Patrick, Caroline Raclin and Curran Raclin.

Kennedy will remain at home in Mass., where he is fighting brain cancer. He was diagnosed last year in May.

Kennedy is among 16 recipients this year, who have made an "an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural, or other significant public or private endeavors," a July 30 White House announcement read. "This year's awardees were chosen for their work as agents of change.''

After being named for the award, Kennedy's office immediately released a statement saying he was "profoundly grateful to President Obama for this extraordinary honor."

The last time I saw that photograph was in Hot Rod magazine, over 40 years ago. I think the carrier’s crew was looking to set a drag racing record!

Has Ted Kennedy ever met a totalitarian dictator he didn’t like?

Must be a sympathy award because he is a kennedy. Big deal, he is trash.

and who is Kiki?? I thought his wife was Vicki?

With slugs like this getting these awards, it makes a mockery of the honor itself. What a disgusting place we are in America.

I hate liberals.

“Government stooges awarding each other medals?
No sitting member of congress should have buildings named after them, bills named in their honor, nor should they receive government honors.”

Bingo! Absolutely correct.

Have always argued public structures funded by the taxpayers - or governmental actions designed to benefit the public - should be named for taxpayers who give their lives in support of the public: members of the armed services, police, firemen, etc.

It has to do with the idea of who owns to the money, the public or the public’s aggents.

One of the Boston papers had a photo of him sitting in his sailboat last week with his wife by his side.

He looked terrible. Hands shriveled, eyes were sunken back in his head. His appearance suggested he had very little time left.

College cheat, U.S. embassy soldier compromised by female Soviet agent, killer of young female campaign worker, architect of the nation's overwhelming immigration problem, serial adulterer, peddler of crackpot educational theories, drunkard, designer of a government takeover of health care, leading 'RAT leftist in the Senate.

If his name had been Ted Smith he would have been picked up from skid row and buried in a pauper's grave decades ago... or else he would have had to grow up, get a real job and take care of himself and his family.

You left out his part in destroying South Africa which I believe began under Carter and continues to this day.
Tons of blood on his hands.
