Focus on the Family announced on Tuesday that it will be passing the reigns of its Love Won Out conferences on homosexuality to another ministry.

he move is a logical step, the Colorado Springs-based evangelical organization said, especially as it faces a "serious" budget shortfall.

"Everyone knows these are challenging times for organizations and individuals all across the globe," said Gary Schneeberger, vice president of media and public relations for Focus on the Family, in a statement. "It is not an inexpensive undertaking to put on a Love Won Out event; and contrary to what our detractors say, the conferences rarely have recouped the financial investment made in them. That is a cost we have always paid because of the positive impact the events have had."

Jim Daly, president and CEO of the family ministry, said income is down nearly $6 million from what they planned for this year.

I will never forget the relief I felt as a young woman when focus in the family and other Christian leaders came on the scene and slapped back the radicals when it was absolutely politically incorrect to do. They were so demonized and they did not back down. I hope it does not die out.

It seems the economy must be hurting peoples donations to Focus on the Family.

I know they are hurting for money. For some reason they also lost their influence and voice to bring change and lead. Kind of like the GOP stopped being effective in ideas of reform and connection with the people. It will be reborn again. Jesus does not fail us.

I remember that the Baptist church I grew up in was big on “Focus on the Family”. I was not hip to it or the Baptist church I grew up in. I later converted and became a Catholic. I often did not agree with either the church or “focus on the Family” on stuff they taught. I admit this was back in the 1980’s and if I studied Focus on the Family a little more in dept I might warm up to them. I know what they were trying to do with “Love Won Out”, but for reasons we don’t know it failed. There are other Christian ministries out there that do succeed in helping gay people, however, maybe one of them could take over and make this work?

Hey, I am Catholic,too. :)

Don't take anything I say here personally as if I mean it to be directed at you. But back in the day when focus in the family came about, our church in the US was permitting liberal priests and nuns to speak for it. They were promoting abortion in the churches and youth groups along with all of liberation theology. When I was very young, our church were leaders in academic conservatism in all fields. However, the Marxists of liberation theology were aggressive and they took over all those academic positions, schools and institutions. Christians were accustomed to depending upon the influence and power of Catholics institutionally and then Catholic leaders went in reverse. There was a leadership void.

When FIF came along, the social and moral voice of authority in society had all melded into humanism. Uppity Christians were openly hated and denounced in all public and elected venues as stupid hicks. Anyone who stood up to the sacred “right to choose” was torn apart as woman hating and it worked to keep people quiet.

But then pro-life and pro-family Christian groups came along spoke and organized and the humanists no longer were cornering the market on culture and faith. They were not academics; real Christians and Catholics have been pretty much expelled from academia. But if it were not for them, women would have no idea that they are not removing tissue in abortion; rather taking the life of a child. If it were not for them, Liberals would have successfully demonized Pope Paul and Mother Theresa. Catholic conservatives would not have had the cover and courage to take the leadership of the church from the liberation theologists as is the case today (hopefully).

Yea...we had two nuns in Charleston kicked out of the convent/church for crap like that. I remember.

This is what I did not like.

They told a story about a christian university where if an unmarried woman got pregnant she was sent to the dean’s office, lost all her credits, and was kicked out of school. Nothing happened to the Man, mind you. Well they had to stop this...why? They found out all the unmarried women were having abortions. Well duh stupid! That was a private christian university and was freaking expensive as hell. Of course they will have an abortion. I was angry that they did not punish the man and only punished the woman. I was also angry that this would have gone on had they not found out about the abortions, ie women would have been discriminated against. That university should have had better sense...they knew abortion was legal, and they were contributing to abortions by trying to “punish” the women that way. Yes I know they had standards, but why only the women? It takes two to tango. Back then I was glad they had had the abortions, it won women their freedom they should have had already.
