WASHINGTON – The Obama administration says it will defend a 2001 rule imposed by President Bill Clinton that blocked road construction and other development on tens of million acres of remote national forests.

The administration's decision was contained in court papers filed Thursday in a case in Wyoming that could help settle the fate of remote federal forests. The administration is siding with environmentalists in the case.

This effectively bans the handicapped and elderly from accessing these public lands.

No doubt there are more than a few lawyers out there who will know how to win a massive settlement with the federales for violating the handicapped accessibility law.

What amuses me is how many sheeple in this country still Trust the government to do what is best for them and to keep them safe.
.
FACT: The Government can only always be trusted to take your money and rights away from you.
.
Any government form is flawed as it is composed as many flawed individuals who are not good people. From the DMV clerk with an attitude, the City council member who taking kickbacks from the country clubbers, to the senator who is taking money from PACs, all of the way to the president who is taking money from companies like G.E.
.
When will people learn that you need government but you need to be vigilant and limit their powers at every turn. We need to also teach people the common ideal that when you let or expect people to take care of a certain aspect of your life you lose some of your freedom. For every sugar coated promise a politician makes there is a equal price to pay in lost control, money or freedom over our own lives.
.
The Instant Gratification ME, ME, ME culture of today’s society feeds directly to the politician’s sweet saccharine promises of how the government is going to take care of them. There used to be a time when people used to have enough pride in themselves that if you gave someone a free meal they would see to it that they would return the favor because they felt if they didn’t they would be viewed a selfish loser. We used to bear the burden of our families and help take care of our grandmas and grandpas, aunts and uncles, cousins and children. These days those responsibilities are dropped upon the government who ends up doing a sub standard job of doing so. The politicians don’t mind this, in fact they love this dependency on their special programs, they gain power in political capital which ensures that they get re-elected each term. These guaranteed votes allow them to be as corrupt as they want as they no longer fear reprisal. They no longer fear reprisal because they they have large voting block dependent on them.
.
Put it this way, when you were a kid and were totally dependent on your parents and your parents grounded you, did you have the power to stand up against them in any meaningful way? No you didn’t.
.
Same with the government, the more of your life they control and make you dependent on them, the more they can get away with.
.
.
The Government has so much of this control that they are no longer accountable to their own actions. It doesn’t surprise me that they would black out information and manipulate documents even when it comes to a promise of transparency. They are all a bunch of corrupt schmucks because we let them be that way. Maybe if we are to be a ME ME ME generation who acts like children, then we really deserve Big Brother or Father watching over until we grow and wake up. What is the German word for Father again????
.
We all have inherent human rights, the government’s role is not to GRANT you rights, the role of government is to RESTRICT your actions when they infringe upon other people’s rights. But people these days think that the government is their parents handing out things like rights, privileges and safety.
.
Maybe we deserve exactly what we got.

Yep. All the Feds need to do is drop a match in an area made into a tinderbox by lousy, tree-hugger management (such as preventing the harvesting of treefall and preventing the construction of fire lanes and fire breaks), and all the risk of injury will fall on the local firefighters. Then the Feds can ride in as heroes with aid and grandstanding.

As I recall there were 12 Billion board feet of timber cut on federal lands before Bill Clinton took office.

By the end of the Clinton years only 1 Billion board feet was being cut.

The payments to the federal government a tidy sum I would venture a guess.

Was this all of Clinton's doing?

Perhaps some one can help me out with the exact dates and amounts.

Exactly, but in reality it prevents many tens of thousands of others who don't hike or ride horseback from enjoying those public lands also.

The enviro nuts have the Dems in their pockets and this won't change until the leftists don't control Congress any longer.

WHAT A DAMN MORON!!!!!
Forest roads are used by firefighters. When a fire breaks out in these forests and there are no roads, then the job falls to the smoke jumpers and firefighters who have to slog though the forest. These eco idiots end up getting more firemen killed and let more trees burn up than necessary. By building roads, they would end up saving much more trees than keeping roads being built. I swear, these people are educated WAY beyond their intelligence.

Elitist globalists (of both parties) want to annex as much of America as possible to hand over to the UN. That is why the government is hell bent on kicking us out of the national park and government controlled areas and restricting access. This fits in with the cap&trade annexing of all industries based on CO2, the desire to flood America with illegal immigrants, and also with the obsession to reduce the world population through abortion and euthanasia.

We are dealing with a political class that wants to usher us into the age of world government regardless of Americans not wanting to go. The only way to fix this mess is to take out all the incumbents in both parties through elections. Unfortunately, the public is to easily distracted for that to ever happen.

Yep another Clinton thing. I have read that was a payback for every county in Utah going against Clinton in the 1992 election and Riadys campaign contributions.

Plus who knows what else the Clintons to the this country while in the white house?

Several groups that I belong to are related to caving as you might guess by my name. They are the biggest bunch of environuts as you’ve ever seen. They are all dead set against any type of logging. Me and my buddies are the token right wingers in these groups.

I am heading up to the Mogollon Rim on Monday for 1 cool month of camping and enjoying the Apache Sitgreaves forest. We will camp about 5 miles from the extreme burn edge of the fire that in 199? burned 532,000 acres of prime Ponderosa Pine. I would love to see a back burn of about 50 acres with a tree hugging SOB tied to the top of each tree. Their screams would be music to my ears!

Would be a small retribution for those lost in the original fire.

OH yeah, i was expecting this, surprised it took so long. There is a lot more to "the roadless initiative" than merely " blocking road building"

for one , it screws thousands of people out of access to their private property in order to please the enviro-kooks. It closes hundreds of roads in deserts and forests

The "roadless Initiative" closes hundreds of roads arbitrarily at the whim of the local environmentalist extremist groups all across the USA.

This article is very misleading , it makes it sound like all it does is stop new roads from being built.

Controlled burns are a good thing. I own about 120 AC of good forest land in East Texas with mostly pines and some hardwoods. We do cuts every 8 or so years and controlled burns to get rid of the dead underbrush. Goes a LONG way to prevent wildfires.

The most insidious point of this "Roadless Rule" is that embedded within these 31 pages is the fact that these areas declared within the 2001 roadless initiative are in fact not roadless at all. They have merly been declared roadless. Roads and trails within these areas are thereby declared "non-existent ". It also qualifies forest areas as eligible for "wilderness status".

This lawsuit is designed to set precedent for a sweeping federal reinstatement of the rule instead of on a state by state basis.

The state of California ninth circuit court of appeals quietly re-instated the roadless rule around Aug 3 of this year, this is the first I have heard of it.

So I would be a little nervous if I owned property within one of these "roadless areas"
