FORT WORTH, Texas – The Charles Manson follower convicted of trying to assassinate President Gerald Ford was released Friday from a Texas prison hospital after more than three decades behind bars, a prison official said.

Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme was just 26 years old when she pointed a semiautomatic .45- caliber pistol at Ford in September 1975 in Sacramento, Calif. Secret Service agents grabbed her and Ford was unhurt.

Fromme, now 60, left the Federal Medical Center Carswell in Fort Worth at about 8 a.m. Friday, spokeswoman Dr. Maria Douglas said in a statement.

Always nice to know that if you attempt to assassinate a Republican President you can eventually get out of prison.

"I knew someday she would be released," said John Virga, the Sacramento attorney who handled her trial.

This tends to reinforce your statement.

Must have gotten a position in the 0bama Whitehouse communications department promoting their health care agenda.

Hell, her previous boss was a mass murdering lunatic, the new one is just looking for someone with experience in that field.

“Fromme had said she escaped from prison to be closer to Manson.”

Is Charlie gonna get a “conjugal visit?”

My sister lived for a few years in a commune in Northern Vermont with Linda Kasabian, who was the State's Witness against the Manson gang.

If I were Linda, I would be watching my back. Very closely.

That would make perfect sense, an honorary Doctorate in 'Feminine Studies' would be a logical fit.

Well, aren't we going through the rehabilitate the unrehabitlitatable chapter, AGAIN? It's all part of defining punishment down and make evil feel good. Another generation needs to learn, it doesn't work.

Yeah...that is interesting. I read the book “Helter Skelter” as did many of my generation, and they always made it sound like she was kind of “along for the ride”.

I guess she sure was.

Soon to be a guest at the White House, invited by Bill Ayres and Bernadine Dohrn?

Bernadine would say “Dig it!”

Of course if Squeaky tries anything, some story would be made up that she was brainwashed/programmed by none other than Dick Cheney.

First the college kids start looking young, then at the grocery stores, they start with the ma’ams and sirs, and pretty soon the police look like little school kids, and by then you know you’ve had it

On a somewhat humorous note (to me at least) when I arrived in Memphis, Tennessee at NATTC Memphis after Boot Camp, I arrived somewhat late at night. They assigned me a room, and I went up...as I opened the door, my new roommate was lying on his rack reading...Helter Skelter.

He did not even so much as look at me. But what really got my attention was that he had a rather LARGE Buck knife, and he lay on his back with the book in one hand, he was slowly and endlessly sharpening the knife with a whet stone on his thigh with the other.

ME: How's it going?

ROOMMATE: Scrape. Scrape. Scrape.

ME: Ummm...I uhhh...guess I have this side of the room?

ROOMMATE: Scrape. Scrape. Scrape.

He was not happy to see me. I think he had that room to himself for a while, and never got any chummier with me.

There is a faculty chair waiting for her at Berkley or U. of Chicago.
Since she is under 65, she isn’t covered by Medicare. If she is sick, who is paying for her health care? Need I ask?

40th anniversary of Woodstock!

Woodstock, Manson, Kent State and the Sterling Hall bombing were all within one year, give a month or so. A busy year!

A field day for the heat...

(Lynette trying to shoot Gerry was five years later).

“Always nice to know that if you attempt to assassinate a Republican President you can eventually get out of prison.”

It’s alway been my opinion that most of Manson’s followers were mentally ill, or at least drug-addled. Other than executing Charlie, I don’t know if the prison system was the best way to deal with some of them.

Just my two cents.

You are right. The prison system was not the best way to deal with the Manson family. Immediately after the guilty verdicts, they should have hanged the entire lot of them out behind the courthouse.

she had a loaded mag in her 1911, but never racked the slide....thank heaven for morons, eh?....

Actually, she said it was deliberate. Before she left in her red monk’s robe, she dropped the mag, racked the slide, and put back 4 rounds, she kept the chamber empty.

She was a shooter, she used to shoot shotgun and pistol, so it was no accident. It was some sort of warped effort to get a new trial for Chuck M, or so she said. Lucky for Ford, eh?

When the cops searched her house later they found a single .45 round in the bathroom.

Hell you might find a live round or 2 of .45 ACP on the floor in my gun room....little buggers have a tendency to slip outta my range bag. You will definitely find empties under the seat of my truck....

I dont believe her....and the round on the floor means nothing.

A very very disturbed person. Here eyes are so strange. The clips of her on acid* and the ones where she is straight show little difference!

And she’s out now. Maybe she’ll go visit Ruth Ann?

*I can’t find it, but she was interviewed at Spahn Ranch, she was playing with a shotgun and clearly on acid or something similar, needless to say the interview was sort of incoherent.
