Long live the Belgian Browning Superposed over/under shotgun, the .45 cal. 1911 pistol, and Ma Deuce.
Indeed, a well written worthwhile read. I have used Mister Browning’s innovation to protect hearth and home for decades. His inventions are even now well suited to their intended purpose and have not become obsolete.
Long past time to get my 1919 A4 kit up and running. Damned expensive to feed it, though.
Great stuff. Browning had and still has an enormous impact on firearms design, much still unsurpassed.
Volumes could be written about John Moses Browning. This was a very good article about a most extraordinary man.
Thanks for the ping. (Read this later.)

If Browning didn’t invent it it probably didn’t need inventing.
John Mose, youre going on eleven. Cant you make a better gun than that?
And the rest is history.
Thanks. That was very interesting.
What a wonderful story of American exceptionalism.
Our children should be reminded often, that it’s no accident of history that America has produced so many geniuses and innovators. There is a direct correlation between the freedom and liberty enjoyed by Americans, and their extraordinary contributions to mankind.
Thanks for posting this. I enjoyed every word.
I think any person interested in American history or guns should read “John M. Browning, American Gunmaker”. The book is very readable and the subject matter is more than fascinating.
It is also well illustrated.
The outbreak of World War I was the great crisis of Brownings lifetime. The gun that started it all a .32 Caliber FN Model 1900 semiautomatic pistol wielded by the Serbian assassin Gavrilo Princip was a Browning invention.
That I did not know. And the notion that U.S. troops were issued the Chauchat when the BAR might have been available makes me grind my teeth.
A Browning BTT.
