Afghanistan: Legislation allows husbands to deny wives food if they fail to obey sexual demands
Guardian UK ^ | 14 August 2009 | Jon Boone

Afghanistan has quietly passed a law permitting Shia men to deny their wives food and sustenance if they refuse to obey their husbands' sexual demands, despite international outrage over an earlier version of the legislation which President Hamid Karzai had promised to review.

The new final draft of the legislation also grants guardianship of children exclusively to their fathers and grandfathers, and requires women to get permission from their husbands to work.

"It also effectively allows a rapist to avoid prosecution by paying 'blood money' to a girl who was injured when he raped her," the US charity Human Rights Watch said.

In early April, Barack Obama and Gordon Brown joined an international chorus of condemnation when the Guardian revealed that the earlier version of the law legalised rape within marriage, according to the UN.

Although Karzai appeared to back down, activists say the revised version of the law still contains repressive measures and contradicts the Afghan constitution and international treaties signed by the country.

For one, I doubt it's Karzai's legislation to "back down" on [he's not a legislator], so why the left wing paper the Guardian implies it is his legislation is curious.

Curious, at least until we recall that James Carville aka Serpenthead is working for Karzai's political opponent.

Expect Shia men to have to eat raw food. It's going to be difficult to deny someone food when she's the one who cooks it for you.

"Legislation allows husbands to deny wives food if they fail to obey sexual demands"

See, now THIS is legislation that actually makes some sense. I say we get behind this one and tell the fools in Washington to quit screwing around with the idiotic health Care and Climate Change bills and get to work on something that makes sense.

I guess she has to prepare the food she’s going to be denied as well. Rotten b)st#rds.

They probably at least feed the goats regardless of their sexual demands.

I can do better. If she doesn’t start making demands, I am going to deny myself food! Top that!

I’ve always contended that the main purpose of Islam was to control women. Like the Pherengie on Stak Trek. Keep them naked and ready to go.

Americans are dying fighting for the freedom of these vermin who will always be vermin and always have been so.

It is a waste of our people and our money. The Taliban and the terrorists will always exist. The only way to begin to rid the world of them is to leave great smoking holes in the earth or vast areas of vitrified sand in strategic locations.

I get Biblical about it when I think they treat Jews and women as less than human. I’m guessing that Satan is still really ticked off about that Mary ‘thing’.

And with the way some of these men over there look, I’m not surprised they need a law to get sex from their wives. Eugh. They wouldn’t imagine, bathing, shaving and perhaps being good to her. Naw! The camel never complains!

Isn’t Shia law already spelled out? Why would they need debate laws, as opposed to implementing what was already spelled out?

At times like this, some wives might confuse the sugar box as in the movie “9 to 5.”

The Afghan women could use some of our dragon-breath, hair-under-arms, sweaty, muscle-bound, testosterone-prone, foul-mouthed feminists to slap the crap out of their stinking camel humpers. Garafolo, dowd, jackson lee, striesand, boxer, napolitano, maddow, etc. would be good starting emissaries.
