Back in 1965 Bob Dylan sang: 'How does it feel to be on your own, with no direction home, like a complete unknown?'
Now, 44 years later, the world-famous musician got his answer when he was stopped by a police officer who didn't know who he was.
The 22-year-old officer asked the 'eccentric-looking old man' for identification papers after stopping him in the U.S. seaside town of Long Branch, New Jersey. Bob Dylan
Not recognising his name, the officer ordered him into the back of her police car, driving him back to his hotel to check his story.

Obomanots reported him for mixing fishy medicine in his basement.
“If you’re lookin’ to get silly
You better go back to from where you came
Because the cops don’t need you
And man they expect the same” Bob Dylan
I think he represents the number one example of what happens to your brain from drugs. No one...no one has written some of the songs he has only to become a shadow of productivity in later years. I’m not talking about the ones that are popular, I’m talking about the ones no one has heard like “Baby, you’ve been on my mind”, or “If tomorrow wasn’t such a long time.”
LOL!!!
I imagine Dylan was secretly pleased to be able to disappear in plain sight. He has never struck me as the privileged entourage type.
Sounds like this cop should have been watching the parking meters.
"I've been MUZAC'D!"
An eccentric old (white) man, detained for not having his papers. The times they are a changin’.
"'I offered to bring in some of my Dylan albums, but unfortunately she doesnt know what vinyl is either.'
Thanks for the post!
“You know somethin is happenin’ here, but you don’t know what it is, do yo, Mr. Jones..”
The police are profiling a white Jewish guy walking through an Hispanic neighborhood because he looks “different”. Now that’s a good one...
Ha ha ha. Went to Bob Dylan/Paul Simon concert a few years ago and Dylan may have written beautiful words, but the man cannot sing, he just YELLS out the words. And he doesn’t look good either.
Yo, bro'! Arrested for "Walking While Eccentric". I've been picked up for that, I don't know how many times!
How does it feel
to be on your own
a complete UNKNOWN...
Compare this post with the one posted last year on “freeloader phony” Joan Baez.

I must respectfully disagree. That pattern of a large burst of creativity in youth followed by a slow decline is common to most highly creative artists in any medium, whether they are painters, writers, or whatever -- especially those artists who create alone (as opposed to actors, who are engaged by a director and are part of a financial production).
It is difficult to explain the searing mental energy of such high creativity, and how it burns people out, unless you know people in the arts. This is not a defense of drug abuse; just an observation about the nature of creativity quite apart from drug abuse.
Will Obama hold a press conference to announce that the police “acted stupidly”?

Well, they’ll stune ya when you’re trying to be so good,
They’ll stune ya just a-like they said they would.
They’ll stune ya when you’re tryin’ to go home.
Then they’ll stune ya when you’re there all alone.
But I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stuned.
Well, they’ll stune ya when you’re walkin’ ‘long the street.
They’ll stune ya when you’re tryin’ to keep your seat.
They’ll stune ya when you’re walkin’ on the floor.
They’ll stune ya when you’re walkin’ to the door.
But I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stuned.
They’ll stune ya when you’re at the breakfast table.
They’ll stune ya when you are young and able.
They’ll stune ya when you’re tryin’ to make a buck.
They’ll stune ya and then they’ll say, “good luck.”
Tell ya what, I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stuned.
Well, they’ll stune you and say that it’s the end.
Then they’ll stune you and then they’ll come back again.
They’ll stune you when you’re riding in your car.
They’ll stune you when you’re playing your guitar.
Yes, but I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stuned.
Well, they’ll stune you when you walk all alone.
They’ll stune you when you are walking home.
They’ll stune you and then say you are brave.
They’ll stune you when you are set down in your grave.
But I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stuned.
Man, what the hell country am I living in?
At my old office there was a celeb-dentist down the hall, who’d been Dylan’s roadie years before.....when Dylan would come down the hall, he was always dressed like a “homeless”.
This is what happens when people have to much time on their hands.
I recall a story of when Bob Dylan toured England for the first time in 10 years back in 1978. He went to go meet Link Wray, a guitar playing favorite of Bob’s dating back to the 1950s (Link was touring England with Robert Gordon and on a 10 year “peak” of his own). So Bob goes backstage to meet Link (at Link’s show) and Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols is already back there. Sid reconizes Bob and reportedly calls him “Bob Dildo”.
Sometimes it doesn’t pay to be recognized.
Yep, you are now deemed a criminal if you don’t “fit in”.
Good for her, another loser off the street!
It appears he really got “Tangled Up In Blue”.
It’s England. She’s a bobby, not a police.
Very nicely said. Dead on.
I’m stunned that everyone on this board has missed the most important part of this story. Dylan, told to get into the back of a police car, does so. he doesn’t puff himself up and say “do you realize who you’re messing with”?? Do you realize who i am? he just gets in, goes back, shows his ID, and that’s it.
Compare and contrast with a recent news story of your choosing.
“I’ve been MUZAC’D!”
20 years ago, I was in a department store when I heard the Muzac version of Led Zeppelin’s ‘The Rain Song’ playing overhead.
I had to leave.
My bad, I see this is a British account of a US incident.
It could have been worse, he could have been breaking into his own house and then raising a giant stink when the officer asked for his ID.
His voice has always been an "acquired taste"...even when he was in his prime. His brilliance,IMO,has always been shown through his compositions.
And he doesnt look good either.
Many (including me) would argue that he's never looked all that spiffy.
“...walkabout”? “...fell about laughing”? “...rather a lot of abuse”? These quotes do not sound very New Jersey to me, least of all Jersey cop. I’m calling b.s. on this article.
“Just then this cop comes down the street
Crazy as a loon
He throw us all in jail
For carryin’ harpoons”...from Bob Dylan’s 115th Dream
Uh... what exactly does the writer of this article think her "error" was? Harassing a celebrity, I guess. Because obviously she knew she was harassing some law-abiding nobody before that, and that apparently didn't rise to the level of an "error."
A 22-year old should know who Bob Dylan is...but I'm not surprised they don't.
al baby, see #20...
Good catch.
Hmm, good catch...
OK... I don't think we are getting the complete story here... are we supposed to present ID anytime a police officer asks for one?
And what was a policeman doing anyway, asking to see his identification papers? He was walking, right, not driving and speeding? Since when do US citizens have to carry identification papers to show to a cop if they’re just walking and not breaking any law?
Ha, you beat me to it.
I was amused to think about Dylan and Nelson in concert. They might accidentally find melody, together. But they do know music and how to put words together - when they sing a song, it may not sound at all like the notes on paper, but it’s right (while you’re listening).
You said — Its England. Shes a bobby, not a police.
—
Ummmm..., has England invaded again? LOL....
Compare and contrast with Barbra Streisand...or a guy by the name of Gates....
What are you talking about? He has put out two albums and tours in his 60s.
It’s the creepy old dude from the Victoria’s Secrets ads.
