3 die, 70 wounded in blast near NATO HQ in Kabul

KABUL – A suicide car bomb exploded near the main gate of the NATO-led international military mission Saturday, killing three Afghans and wounding 70, officials said. The Taliban claimed responsibility.
The pinpoint attack penetrated a heavily guarded neighborhood that also houses the U.S. Embassy and Afghan presidential palace just five days before Afghanistan’s nationwide elections.
Bloodied and dazed Afghans wandered the street after the blast, and children — many of whom congregate outside the NATO gate to sell gum to Westerners — were among the wounded. Windows of nearby antique shops were shattered and blood smeared the ground.
Gen. Mohammad Zahir Azimi, the spokesman for the Afghan Ministry of Defense, said three Afghan civilians were killed and 70 wounded in the blast. Capt. Elizabeth Mathias, a U.S. spokeswoman for the NATO-led mission, said the explosion occurred near the gate of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force. She had no immediate information on damage to the headquarters.

Hypothetically speaking, let’s say there’s a leader of a country, like Iraq. And let’s say, that leader really dislikes certain segments of his population—like say, the Kurds. Sometimes, like in the case of Saddam Hussein, leaders go to extremes to intentionally harm members of that segment of the population. Like when Saddam gassed the Kurds on purpose. Now that was a very obvious (and overt) example of a tyrannical dictator ridding himself of a segment of his population he really disliked. To do so, one would have to be really crazy. So, I don’t think anything like that would happen anywhere in the civilized world. I think to suggest that anything even remotely similar was happening now would be ludicrous.

He has no National Security Strategy published.

He cannot publish it.

Although, he is required to publish one per the Goldwater/Nichols act.

But, he won’t.

Seems that way, don’t it?
Remember when clinton had the massive callup and 90 day TDYs right before his 2nd election so most of the military couldn’t vote or have their votes counted?
There is absolutely nothing in Afghanistan worth fighting for, let alone dying for...except the drugs.
McChrystal made the statement that there was too much attention paid to security in the direction of our troops instead of the population. He changed all that. Now our troops are sacrificed to protect “innocent” civilians. And the American death toll continues to rise.

And the American death toll continues to rise.

And the libtards and the MSM who protested in the streets about the "illegal war in Iraq," demanding that our soldiers come home NOW...I haven't seen nor heard from any of them since the Obama Afghanistan surge. Have you?

No. They are too busy worshipping at the alter. Miss-pelling on purpose.
Seriously, what is happening in Afghanistan is an outrage. I’ve been posting about it for weeks. Some people think I don’t know what I’m talking about, but they are wrong. I know only too well.

Thankfully, one of the Marines I know who was over there has returned safely this week. Another friend of mine has a son there now who just lost three friends from his unit last week. Interesting how I had to hear about that from a facebook link, and not on the news.

I’m praying harder than ever for our soldiers. Hope everyone else does the same. God bless and protect them all.

To which I can only respond, AMEN!

There are plans in the works to send even more Marines. The ROE are stacked against them and will be still more drastically changed after McChrystal’s “formal assessment.” I fear for them. I fear for us. Pray hard. We need it. THEY need it.

Ahhhh....I got your point...... I do agree that Afghanistan should have remained a low intensity op. Bush had it right after his initial entry, and our new leader has painted himself in a political box. He has to upgrade this sand pile to critical and yes, he is fixin to waste a lot of lives!.........For Nuthin~!!!!

But, he's doin it because he's a idiot, and not because he has a purpose. The general in charge told him he was a idiot so he fired him. Now the new general will likely come to the same conclusion and he will get fired too.

By that time the locals will have turned into Taliban again and there will be a shortage of flags for absolutely nothin......

US Army 1969-72.......Been there.....done that political dumbass dance.

Taliban claim suicide strike on NATO compound in Kabul

http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUSSP15615620090815

“The target was the U.S. embassy, but we could not reach it. The suicide car bomber exploded near the ISAF headquarters and killed several foreign troops,” Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told Reuters by telephone from an undisclosed location, referring to the International Security Assistance Force.

Well, while I do not argue your point that he is an idiot, I also believe that either he (or someone who is pulling his strings) has a purpose for his actions in Afghanistan. Whether or not that purpose is in the best interest of Americans and America is not a difficult question to answer.

Last I read.....He has some 60 billion set aside for Afgan.....

I have no clue where or how they can spend that kind of dough in that place. Reconstruction would be a fraction of that. This ain't Iraq.

The left boxed themselves in by claiming the real war was afganistan and Iraq was a mistake. Our new leader wants to prove that lie. They are vested in it for history and to continue to damage Bush.....as they see it.

They will be proved wrong and it's gonna cost us. In the end they will pull back and maintain what Bush left them as they should have, or they will pull out and go back to million dollar cruise missles, tents and camels asses......

For the sake of the military, I sincerely hope your second option is the one they choose—and quickly.

I'm afraid they will do it far too late if they do it at all.

My advice, delay enlistments if you can.

Take some advice from a guy who got cussed at and spat on in 1972 and took shit for wearing green. America makes mistakes. One of the biggest goofs is that it allows wars to become political and it has yet to stop doing this. War-fighters must be given the ability to call the shots on the ground. This is not what is happening now, contrary to appearances.

Perhaps if it's young would just refuse to defend the marching idiots, this problem might go away.

I dunno.......but I would not let my kid enlist under this current crop of idiots..No way.........These people are the worst kind of Lemmings...Don't follow them over the cliff or into the deep water. They are following a messiah and can't see anything but the BS.

And the crickets are chirping in response to what is happening over there now. July had a record number of U.S. soldier casualties but it practically goes unnoticed since Bush is no longer CIC, amazing.

ZerO basically said the war is over, it’s just a little Overseas-Contingency-Operation now about man-made disasters right?

America can never win a guerrilla war, nor can it win a limited war. If history has taught us anything it is that the only war for a civilized society to win a war over a tyranicall government is to totally annihilate them. It may seem barbaric but it has to be done there can be no chances of a revival and no martyrs to be made.

The list of OBAMAO’s failures is already huge on domestic AND FOREIGN ISSUES that MSM are trying to cancel from the screens and headlines.

IRAN NORTH KOREA IRAQ AFGHANISTAN ISRAEL CHINA RUSSIA...on every particular issue that’s a disaster despite the photos since OBAMAO always appear as bowing before tyrants...Relations with european countries are not good and will go deteriorating(Brits are considering withdrawing troops from AFGHANISTAN...)
Stay tuned !

Make no mistake about it, the election of a crypto-muslim as POTUS and the fact that the USA is now led by America hating socialists has emboldened the enemy like nothing else could.

They know they only have to wait us out and continue to terrorize the populace until the marxists in DC take a poll and decide to declare victory, leave, and give the ragheads back their terrorist base.
