Whole Foods CEO's Health Care Views Provoke Some Customers to Boycott Store (CORPORATE VAMPIRES!)

Protesters are hoping a boycott will cut into the success of Whole Foods, the 10th largest food and drug store in the U.S., which reported sales of $1.8 billion for last quarter, a 2 percent increase from the previous quarter.

Calls to boycott Whole Foods Market are growing louder and more sophisticated following a Wall Street Journal opinion article by the company's chief executive, John Mackey, in which he criticized President Obama's health care plan and offered his own alternative.

Mackey's article first prompted individuals to threaten taking their business elsewhere. But now the Progressive Review, an online alternative publication, is calling for a formal boycott, and campaigns are popping up all over, including on Facebook, a popular online social networking site.

Protesters are hoping a boycott will cut into the success of Whole Foods, the 10th largest food and drug store in the U.S., which reported sales of $1.8 billion for the last quarter, a 2 percent increase from the previous quarter.

As of Saturday, the Whole Foods Internet forum had more than 4,000 postings. One commenter thanked http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/forums/index.php for revealing his political views.

"While it was a horrible business move, it was a great courtesy," a commenter identified as boycottwf wrote. "Now, I know that my dollars spent at whole foods are going to fund your misguided conservative views."

The commenter added, "Until you publically apologize to the nation and pledge that you will provide better benefits to your employees, I will not spend another dime at your store."

Whole Foods Forum if you wish to leave a comment. The highly intelligent Libs are out in angry mob force with their gift of 4-letter words to CEO Mackey and references to Hitler signs used by the Right. Calls Whole Foods part of CORPORATE VAMPIRE AMERICA.

WSJ articleMackey offers up eight reforms that would greatly lower the cost of health care for everyone:

Mackey's opinion article started with a quote from former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher: "The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money."

Mackey: "A careful reading of both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution will not reveal any intrinsic right to health care, food or shelter. That’s because there isn’t any. This “right” has never existed in America."

"Leave Whole foods my family will be there to pick up the slack," says: Organicmomof4 to boycotters.

I'm so tired, can any Freepers confirm his views? I've been spending loads of money at Hippie Foods and feeling kind of funny about it, not just because of the multi-pierced side show freaks and carnie rejects handling stuff I plan to eat.

I'd feel a smidge better knowing this was true. : )

Well, if this turns out to be true, I will go to Whole Foods to do all my grocery shopping—even with the hippies and weirdos who work there.

You can, for example: read the linked op-ed piece that is the subject of this post.

These leftists really like whole foods. Where will they shop?
I will support WF all the more now.
It really appears that leftists are actually commies. It is true if you think health care is a right just because it is a necessity, so is food, shelter and who knows what else and that is communism. The government would have to supply every “need” to everyone. These leftist must be unable to connect the most obvious dots.
What isn't being talked about is that if these people get control it won't just be the old and very young who will be deemed as not worth the cost of their lives, but most assuredly, Conservatives.

I went into Whole Foods today and bought a few things. I left a comment supporting their CEO on my way out.

We neutralized one protester today by shopping at a Whole Foods.
They really have quality items, not cheap though.

Another thing one can do is register on the Whole Foods forum and post in support of Mr. Mackey.

Definitely a great place to pick up lunch ~ they have a superior cheese bar AND, best of all, a wide array of clearly marked GLUTEN FREE products.

We stop there regularly to get bread, cookies and pastries which are otherwise simply not available to folks with a wheat problem.

I'm glad the owner shares my politics. We will shop there more often!

I shop about half the time at Whole Foods and I have been feeling guilty because I thought I was supporting a liberal. I feel better now.

There were a bunch crowding the aisles at Trader Joe's tonight. I heard one whining about how difficult it is to find organic bananas and how much better they taste.

I shop at Whole Foods because they have great stuff that I can’t find elsewhere, and it’s a GREAT place to watch people. Now I have a third reason to shop there!
