Dems abandoning leadership advice By Jared Allen Posted: 08/16/09 01:30 PM [ET] An August in which Democrats were supposed to return home to sell the merits of a universal healthcare plan has turned into one where members are publicly fending for themselves.
Some have even shunned the talking points and tactics their leaders encouraged them to use to gin up support for the Democratic healthcare bill as theyve engaged with sometimes hostile constituents.
Rep. John Yarmuth (D-Ky.) recently lashed out at Speaker Nancy Pelosis (D-Calif.) recommended talking points aimed at the insurance industry, and criticized her approach in a letter to a local private insurance company, according to the Louisville Courier Journal.
Regrettably, with passions inflamed throughout the country, Speaker Pelosi recently made inflammatory statements that assailed the character of health insurers across the board. I unequivocally reject those misguided comments, Yarmouth wrote to the CEO of Louisville-based Humana, the paper reported this week.
Democrats unveiled a line of attack against the private insurance industry after the House failed to move a healthcare bill before August recess, an attack President Barack Obama has taken up in recent days. Pelosi called insurers the villains of the healthcare reform debate.
Even Democrats who are not part of the central leadership team were confident that attacking the insurance industry would play well, even in districts where members were due to face a backlash against socialized medicine.

Actual taxpayers in the streets with signs...Shock and Awe!
They’re cracking up. Next thing that will happen is the house Dems exploding over no ‘public option’.
By the time we’re finished, we’ll have killed the whole thing from the sidelines. Then, we can sit back and watch them destroy each other over it.
This thing was doomed the moment they failed to pass it before recess.
The good thing is that even if they don’t pass it, they’re still going to get blamed for it. The things that have been brought up in this bill are so repugnant that there will be blowback to all who tried to advocate for it, whether they ended up against it or not.
Just what Mr. Obama needed: The furthest left Speaker in the House and Majority Leader in the Senate, in the history of the United States. If the GOP can’t take back both houses of Congress in 2010, it’s their own damned fault!!
Too late. Pink Slips for everybody. Buh bye.
This is really quite enjoyable.
The liberals who voted for him are now turning on The Kenyan and raging against his policies.
The house dems are turning on Pelosi.
Hillary is halfway on her way to the mental hospital after being dumped by Huma.
Life is good...
Good article! what, there's more?
I missed the story on Huma. Can you fill me in on what happened? I was wondering the other day what had become of her, having not heard about her for while. But I had no idea there was a Dumping. Where can we find out about it?
It’s a good start; plenty more work to be done.
Never mind, I googled and found the engagement announcement.
She went back to being straight once Hillary crashed and burned.
“This is really quite enjoyable.”
Yeah, this is fun stuff. Hopefully conservatives don’t take their foot off the gas and ride this wave all the way into the midterms.
I do google searches for Arlen Spectre vids at Townhalls in the evenings just before bed and my wife says that I go to sleep with the stupidest smile on my face.
At some point Pelosi will be shown the door.
Aussie Senate just voted down Climate Change participation....this must be stopped here also in addition to the Healthcare Bill. For now, NOTHING should be done about Healthcare that does not foster FREE ENTERPRISE priority in dealing with the problems our GOVT has created. None of Obamas agenda is any good. Republicans, EPA should pay attention to Australia also and the new data on GLOBAL COOLING.
Republican party has compromised so much with the left, that it is well to the left also and must be moved to more historically traditionalist roles if the country is to move away from fatal fragmentation. The Dems fail intentionally in fostering unity, and the Republicans are divided on what kind of unity they want. It would be best if the same awakened public on the Healthcare issue guide the parties back to sanity. The awakened public now HAS THE INITIATIVE...will they recognize the FACT and continue on?
wonder if Hillary has even thought of why she got put out in Africa in the first place.
It seems bozo is doing all he can to keep her out of the picture.
Actually why was she over there and what was she trying to accomplish?
