Opponents of Barack Obamas healthcare proposals are using the tactics of Saul Alinksy, the legendary leftwing activist who helped inspire the US president when he was a young community organiser, says Dick Armey, head of Freedom Works, a group fighting against universal healthcare.
Mr Armey, who was the Republican majority leader in the House of Representatives for most of the 1990s, said his group, which is behind many of the tea party protests that have disrupted town-hall meetings in the past two weeks, draws consciously on the forms of agitation pioneered by Mr Alinsky.
Mr Obama, who worked as a community organiser among unemployed steel workers on Chicagos South Side in the late 1980s, was heavily influenced by Mr Alinsky, who inspired a generation of radicals in the 1960s

Don’t forget Sept. 12th
‘’Alinsky, you magnificent bastard, we read your book!’’
Why shouldn’t we use their tactics? We even have captured their art form with the Joker. I am getting a Che type tshirt made of the picture. If my friends don’t like the joke..well the joker is on them.
Need to get some posters printed for light poles in my hood also.
I think Obama is more of an aggrivator than agitator. I think we should be able to get an aggrivation tax deduction.
Well, Dick Armey, this is no news at all, uncovering the Alinsky connection. I, in fact, lived on the South Side when Alinsky was at his most active.
The one good thing to watch for as the summer rolls on, as Armey says, is how they’ll manage to demagogue the swine flu issue , creating a panic as they attempt to introduce it into the “Health Care” debate, as an argument to help support Obama’s plan.
We do not disrupt meetings.
We merely try to participate, and when that participation is unwanted and inconvenient, we still do it.
.
That’s right...turn their own cannon against them!! LOL
What a picture - that’s great, but not unexpected for the generations that followed the embarrassments of the ‘60s.
Fighting fire with fire works.
Something the Bush White House failed to understand.
Something the GOP congressional leadership failed to understand.
Something conservative leaning talking heads and opnion writers by in large fail to understand.
That is why the GOP sits now as the minority. Not only do you have to play the game on Democrats turf now. You have to be willing to get dirty and throw back. Americans like people that fight for what they believe and all too often the GOP looks like a 900 pound wussie whenever they are TV facing off against a Rat or a media talking head. All of this started after the Clinton White House blamed Gingrich and Dole for the Government shutdowns in 1995. Off went to the testicle in to Hillary’s lockbox.
The GOP should be taking notes and implementing what has been going on in these townhalls and go all out against the media and the Rats and let the chips fall.
ping for later theft!
It is beneath us to use their tactics. We should write lengthy, philosophical, well-researched pieces and have them published in obscure yet respectable paper journals with circulations no more than a few thousands.
Even if we lose, we know we lost in a dignified way.
OMG. I thought exactly the same thing when I saw it. Here is a “long-hair-hippie-type” at odds with the old guy, both holding up signs, but...
What they are rooting for is completely and totally reversed!
Just Wow!
Alinsky, you magnificent bastard, we read your book!
we actually know how to read, unlike many of obama’s liberal activists
Personally I think it’s a mistake to mimmic Alinski, we need to know his tactics, and how to counter him, but we do not want to become him!
oh don’t worry...there are lots of ‘old’ guys against obamacare
Anyone that grew up in the wake of the ‘60s sewage understands that picture.
