Myanmar freed an ailing American whom it had sentenced to seven years of hard labor and handed him to an influential U.S senator on Sunday, a move that could help persuade Washington to soften its hardline policy against the military regime.

Sen. Jim Webb of Virginia, who secured John Yettaw's freedom, said he believes years of sanctions have failed to move the Southeast Asian country toward democratic reforms or talks with detained opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

Here is what locals are saying on Yettaw's home town public forum. My favorite is " Let's see....he went to a country where a group of thugs run the show with no respect for the basic human rights of its citizens, interfered in the election process and set back efforts at democracy, in doing so he strengthen the grip of the thugs.....sounds like he's ready to go to work for Jimmy Carter." http://forums.ozarkregionalonline.com/forumdisplay.php?f=4

Myanmar freed an ailing American

He traveled 8000 miles and swam across a lake, in his 50s. Not too ailing to me.

I couldn't care less if Burma had locked him up.

And THIS is what the Burma Junta got in return, Suu Kyi and the Burmes thrown under the Bus by the current Administration.

Why did Yettaw go in the first place and why did he think he was above another countries laws? Do he know the female political outcast or was he a reporter or what was the real deal? I under stand that after three months in prison he was not in the best of health because of it.

FOUND IT

Yettaw testified in court that God had sent him to Myanmar to protect the opposition leader because he dreamed that a terrorist group would assassinate her.

OKKKKKK.
