Catholics Fight Against Abortion in Obamacare Bills

Roman Catholic leaders are stepping up their fight against the Obama administration’s healthcare plans, urging their faithful nationwide to contact legislators to protest abortion provisions in Democratic bills.

Catholics who attended Mass Sunday in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, for example, received weekly bulletins with a call to action from Cardinal Justin Rigali, head of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' pro-life committee. The archdiocese, one of the largest in the nation, serves 1.45 million Catholics.

“While this legislation is still in draft form, the request for action at the local level is imperative,” the cardinal wrote. “[W]e must take action now to share our thoughts and beliefs with our national legislators in time for them to consider incorporating these points when deliberation resume in September.

“We need to ensure that the new legislation preserves freedom of conscience for healthcare professionals and does not violate the right to life by allocating tax revenues for abortions.”

Catholics have other big concerns under Obamacare. I really don’t think Catholic Hospitals will be able to exist under Obamacare. They will be coerced into providing abortions and other proedures they object too. They will essentially be forced to shutdown or sellout.

I’m sure all the Catholic congress members and senators will vote against it.

When you give up your principles to elect someone who will perform a “social justice” miracle, then you get what you asked for.

Now the Catholic Church knows what was in the package. Maybe next time the clergy will have some guts and stand up for social conservatism.

In other words, Catholic bishops have no objection to Communism, the infantilization of the population, trampling on the rights of the people to their own income and property, trampling on the liberty of the people, trampling on the Constitution, etc.

Our bishops are innocent as serpents and as wise as doves.

What defeatists - Roman Catholic leaders already accepted the fact of 'new legislation'! They are little too late - they didn't do one thing when BO went to Notre Dame to speak. Why didn't they tell their congregation NOT to vote for BO just on the abortion issue. Catholics voted for him!

Wonder which priest has been assigned to go out to the house and provide communion to this abortion enabler?

Rigali? I thought he was fighting this, though at a disadvantage.

you are absolutely correct...the Catholic Church , of which I am a member, has been far too silent on the issue of abortion. I have shared my views with the pastor of my church and have received a luke warm response to my concerns. I am fed up with the non-response of the church concerning abortion....seems that if you are willing to feed illegal immigrants....abortion can wait until later....I’m not impressed

It’s getting hard to find a stiff spine on the evangelical/protestant side too, though there are some bright spots. More Southern Baptists are getting fire in the belly. LCMS and WELS are wonderful in the Lutheran camp.

Luke warm response

Unfortunately, it seems all religious leaders are lukewarm - playing it safe. They have more fear of man than God.

Rev 3:15,16
"I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were cold or hot.
"So, because you are lukewarm--neither hot nor cold--I am about to spit you out of my mouth."

Catholics are sending such mixed messages on socialism, abortion, illegal immigration, and “social justice” that their credibility is shot. One of Obama’s biggest reasons for government-run health care will be the ability to shut down Catholic hospitals that have defied him on universal taxpayer-provided abortion for convenience. It’s possible that the Catholics are weighing the larger threat that they face from Obama - as they had to do in 1934 in Germany, they may be facing a mortal threat to their very existence.
