NITRO -- If it's ultimately up to the city of Nitro smoking is now allowed inside Tri State Racetrack and Gaming Center.
Nitro City Council voted unanimously Tuesday evening to pass an ordinance allowing smoking inside certain parts of the facility.
While it's still unclear if the city's ordinance can overrule a county wide regulation prohibiting smoking, Dan Adkins with the track says they're willing to be the first to try.
"You know, I kind of look at this as this might be very important because if the legislature does choose to address this issue we've got other facilities like ours that are going to have to be taken into consideration so why not set a precident why not do it, do the experimentation right here at tri state and find out what works," he said.
The Kanawha-Charelston Health Board does plan on fighting this new ordinance.
Both parties agree it will likely end up in court.
No. I don’t love this “little tug-o-war.”
What I love is freedom from the nanny state, be it local, county, state or federal.
Oh please....it is fun to watch mummy and daddy fight! Make bets on who will win!
Okay okay....I bet $10. on Nitro! Why? $$$$$$$$$ That (damn) dog track has too much pull and influence and will get away with this!
Gambling. Disgusting.
Yea...I know and quite agree. There was a vote on “table games” here about two years ago. Churches were taking people to the polls to vote against it, yet for some reason it passed. You go figure. I bet it was fixed, in favor of the house if you know what I mean. That is why I say I bet $10. on Nitro winning this. They will smoke and the county will not stop them........
I lived in Cross Lanes for a number of years and know that track. Can’t they smoke out in the open air portion?
And what could smell worse than Nitro, by the way? Or has Monsanto gone out of business?
The struggle between freedom and slavery is neither fun or cheap. You can bet on that.
OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YEA! I remember the smell of Monsanto! It gave me a headache when ever we drove through Nitro. WTF did they make that smelled so bad anyway?
I don’t go to the track so I don’t care if they smoke Monsanto tobacco! I hate the fate of those poor dogs! I hate that damn dog track in general.
All about the money...
Geez folks...since when is smoking really that dangerous.. only if it “really” causes a decrease in government funds.
I know the anti-smoking kooks (yes you are kooks) may thing differently, but all “actual” studies show smoking to be a detriment to the smoker - side issues are just that...
Second hand smoke is such a joke - but of course supported by scientists (kind of like those Ghia Scientists that tell us the the Earth is going to end unless we get rid of carbon energy)...Wow, that was a mouthful wasn’t it.
You’re all a bunch of gullible people - if you actually believe in any of this claptrap!
Science has gone by the wayside...PC is the new Science...
It wasn’t Monsanto that smelled so bad (tho some smell was theirs). The digusting smell you are recalling was methyl mercaptan from the old Fike Chemical plant. Mercaptan is what they add to natural gas to make it smell so leaks can be detected more easily.
My nieces and nephews would fall asleep on trips across I-64 but would always wake up at “the stinky bridge” and know they were near home.
Same when we were kids! Where is Fike Chemicals now? God only knows. NO! Now we have this damn dog track. I would rather have Fike Chemicals or Monsanto! Let them stink up the whole Kanawha valley....those were good, honest jobs and there was nothing wrong with that. Now what do we have? Gambling! I could just barf like I was smelling Fike Chemicals. In fact....in my opinion....that dog track stinks worse than Fike ever could!
