CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Troy Berman has been appointed as executive director of the West Virginia Republican Party.

State GOP Chairman Doug McKinney said Monday that Berman's appointment is effective Sept. 1.

Berman replaces Gary Abernathy, who resigned at the end of the June. Abernathy had said he wanted to spend more time with his family in Ohio.

McKinney says Berman has worked for GOP campaigns and committees in Ohio, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania and Texas.

I just wondered if the WV Republican party is screwed or if he can help it?

One of the posters at the site mentioned something that I wondered about; Berman lists 2 stints as campaign managers in congressional districts PA-17 and TX-22, without a timeline one is not capable of telling whether these were positives or negatives on his resume.

To me, it seems that they need to do something to get it together in WV. It’s a confusing state, with red state values and blue state voting. Cap and Trade will be particularly difficult on WV, but I still doubt that it will bring a conversion to the GOP.

TX-22 is DeLay’s old district.

Berman managed the 2006 congressional run of the pubbie who had to jump into the fray. It was a losing effort, but I would have to say that the chips were probably stacked against him in that cycle.

He turned out 42% of the vote for a write in. Seems like a gamer.
