Father of Public Option Says It's Not a Trojan Horse for a Single-Payer Health-Care System
(CNSNews.com)
SNIPPET: "Hacker said that he hopes the public option, if adopted, would eventually lead to a government-managed system--but it wouldn't happen overnight.
In a 2008 video obtained and aired by Fox News Channel, Hacker not only suggested that his plan would lead to a single-payer system, but said it would do so openly, in a gradual way, he admitted.
Someone once said to me, Well, this is a Trojan horse for single payer. I said, Well, its not a Trojan horse, right? Its just right there! Im telling you! Hacker said in the video, which was filmed at a July 2008 forum sponsored by the liberal Tides Foundation,.
Were going to get there (to a government-run system)--over time, slowly, but well move away from reliance on employment-based health insurance, as we should.
But well do it in a way that were not going to frighten people into thinking theyre going to lose their private insurance. Were going to give them a choice of public and private insurance when theyre in the pool, and were going to let them keep their private employment-based insurance if their employer continues to provide it."

“Well there it is folks.”
Yep.
It shouldn’t happen at all.
I agree.
“IF their employer decides to keep it.”
You highlighted exactly what jumped out at me.
“well do it in a way that were not going to frighten people into thinking theyre going to lose their private insurance”
Seems like the sheep didn’t respond quite the way they were supposed to, now did they!
I hope the GOP is circling the wagons around their “mavericks” and telling them to kill the bill period. There should be no compromise. They need to threaten with strong party discipline. All of this has just made me naseous.
Their advisors and strategy wonks in academia are telling them that this kind of logic will work on right wingers.
It will be carrot and stick wrt: the employer. The carrot part will be that the Public option will be so much less than the private one. The stick part will be any number of subtle regulatory mechanisms to get them to fall in line.
In order to LET me do something, one has to have control in the first place. This "let them" comments made by the president and others are the key phrases that need to be highlighted. Our "parents let their children", kings and dictators "let their subjects", landlords "let their tenants", etc.
I'm telling you people, if we don't rid ourselves of these liberal republicans we are going to continually see dem/socialist in power!
The fight is not with democrats (they won) it's with moderates and rino's within our own party...deal with it!
Evidently the “father” of the “public option” is either a liar or naive. Let’s be charitable and assume the latter. By an analog of Gresham’s Law, the “public option” will turn into a single-payer system within a decade (two, tops). Typical leftist: clueless about economics.
“Evidently the father of the public option is either a liar or naive”
Well, I’m not willing to rule out the possibility he’s both...
OPINION:
Generally speaking, no one in the Obama administration or connected to the Obama administration is naive.
They have an agenda; they are fulfilling their agenda.
These days, it’s not called the Obama agenda; instead it’s called issues.
