Yet the Government is the answer to the health care question. But they cannot even hand out rebate checks.

Borrow money from China so that we can finance the purchase of foreign vehicles, for the large part.
At the same time, we REDUCE the supply of used cars, we REDUCE the supply of used parts, we increase the cost of used cars and used parts -—

And we do NOTHING at all for the environment!

NOTHING!

It takes far more energy to build new cars, and to destroy old cars, then any small fuel economy gain in the US fleet.
The environment would be better off WITHOUT this plan, this is ANTI-RECYCLING, this is WASTEFUL!

Anytime you give away “free” money it’s bound to be “popular.” People love stealing other people’s money.

I wonder ... is the program shutting down so as to NOT PAY DEALERSHIPS? Four out of five applications to Big Brother are REJECTED. In Obamanomics the goal is to eliminate business. What better way to screw dealerships than to NOT pay them and leave them holding the bag?

Delays?

What the heck are these guys thinking? This is a Fed program. Did anyone think they’d get a fast turn around?

I’ve done Government work before. 30 days is fast. 60 days not to bad. 90 - 120 days about average. Oh yeah, and its ALWAYS the vendors fault.

This “stimulus” may cause a few dozen bankruptcies. Sounds stimulating!

how historic!

I don't think the UAW was too happy that 4 out of 5 cars purchased under this program are foreign.

So, what do we have? Billions more dollars thrown away, tens if not hundreds of thousands of serviceable used cars destroyed for no good reason, a complete failure to stimulate the Detroit 3, a temporary spike in sales that only steals from the future, and probably a net loss for energy savings.

Par for the course for the government, I'd say.

As of Wednesday morning, dealers had submitted 435,102 clunker transactions to the Transportation Department and requested $1.8 billion in reimbursements.

Let's see if I have this right (corrections welcomed.)

3 billion allocated for "cash for clunkers", and it runs out of cash at 1.8 billion.

Thus, the overhead for a few months of clunkernomics is (this can't be right) 40 percent?

So (assuming my arithmetic and assumptions are right) the same government that wants to "save" taxpayer money by taking over healthcare has a 40 percent overhead for just a few months of (inefficient) paperwork?

Help me out here, what am I missing?

I believe that I could save us tens of millions if only President Obama would name me... clunker czar! .

.

our local chevy dealer has about 50 c4c’s and they have been paid for 2 all of $9k out of over $200k...they said that the gubmint rejects applications for trivial reasons (no dotted i’s or crossed t’s) and then it takes 10 days for re-submission...they are really worried that they will not get paid because all of the cash will run out before the backlog clears so they have stopped taking new deals

I was noting the huge number of very negative stories that appeared today regarding Obama and his fellow democrats:

Here is a quick list:

1) “Doctor” at Barney Frank townhall exposed as a lying fraud and liberal activist name Sheila Levitt;
2) New Mexico secretary of state and two cronies indicted on 50 counts of corruption;
3) Nevada ACORN vote thief pleads guilty
4)Waxman and another moonbat demand unprecedented examination of private sector insurance company records
5)Huge series of explosions rock Iraq killing about 100
6)Msnbc busted for doctoring townhall gun video
7)Vermont democrat legislator Ed Flanagan arrested for lew behavior in a YMCA
8) Obama export-import bank—a us government pseudo-bank supported by US taxpayers loans 2 billion to a Soros infested, Mexican mafia-PRC cash drenched corrupt Brazilian oil company to explore for oil and create jobs in Brazil while Obama shuts down coal, nuclear and oil exploration in the US. Palin and WSJ strike again!
9)Obama’s clearly incompetent CIA appointee Panetta severely criticized from various quarters
10)fashionistas frown on Michelle shorts
11)Biden speaks at fundraiser

It’ll be made permanent, like all government programs. They have a new generation of middle class people hooked on the gov’t teat. Car sales will tank when it ends because people know the gov’t will resurrect it. It’ll be back more or less as a permanent fixture with no auto sales being made while people wait for the next round of give-aways. Used car prices will continue to soar as people hold their vehicles off the market waiting for the next round of freebies.

Government tampering with formerly free markets at its very finest.

Hitchcock said he had submitted claims for about $1.3 million in clunker reimbursements but had yet to receive a dime from the government.

"I agree with the guy who said this is the most successful, worst-run program ever," he said.

Welcome to Democrat-run Obamacare.

The Transportation Department says it'll soon announce a plan for winding down the popular but problem-plagued car buyer program.

Why do they keep up the lie it is popular? After the first billion it died on the vine due to the problems. The problems made it an unpopular program.

Question for Bozo and the boys: Is winding this program down an excuse for not paying the dealers the money you owe them for rebates? Are the remaining dealers to now get punked by the government?

Wow, I hope so because this will go a long way towards making Bozo even more unpopular than he is now. BTW, if the program is so frickin' popular, why did about 200 NY car dealers drop out of it today?

I wonder if we will ever see an accounting of where the billions of dollars went in this fiasco?

Apparently, it hasn’t gone to the dealers who sold the cars. So where did it go?
