Russian authorities flew the suspected hijackers of the cargo vessel Arctic Sea to Moscow on Thursday and took off them for interrogation, dismissing suggestions that the ship may have been carrying weapons.

The Russian Navy tracked the ship into the Atlantic after what Moscow has termed an act of piracy and boarded it off the Cape Verde islands in the early hours of Monday, freeing the 15 Russian crewmen.

“Lubyanka” is not the Russian word for “theme park.”

They are not in a Russian jail. They probably are back home watching the news of their successful mission.

Rights?

More like failed payment for the “timber”.

Mikhail Voitenko, editor of Russia’s Sovfracht maritime bulletin, said the ship, carrying about £1 million-worth of sawn timber from Finland to Algeria, might have been targeted because it was also loaded with an unknown cargo.

He told the Russia Today news channel: “The only sensible answer is that the vessel was loaded secretly with something we don’t know anything about. We have to remember that before loading in Finland the vessel stayed for two weeks in a shipyard in Kaliningrad. I’m sure it cannot be drugs or illegal criminal cargo. I think it is something much more expensive and dangerous.”

Russia has had ship hijacked off Somalia and they wind up paying the ransom. This one they send in the special forces. Something isn’t right about the cargo.

This is one of those headlines that creates such a warm, fuzzy feeling.

I’d love to see how the Russians would deal with Somalian pirates.

Old Soviet Joke:
Archeologists found an unknown tomb in Egypt. However, they couldn’t determine who the mummy was.
They sent the mummy to the US, Britain, and France, but no one could ID it.
Finally, in despiration, the sent the mummy to Moscow.
Three days later a full report was received explaining who the mummy was and including an extensive biography.
In astonishment, the archeologists called Moscow asking how the Soviets were able to find out so much.

ANSWER - “The mummy talked!”
