Kennedy Rules (IBD Exclusive Series: Government-Run Healthcare: A Prescription For Failure)

Politics: Should the election law in Massachusetts be changed to keep Ted Kennedy's seat filled and get ObamaCare passed? As in Minnesota and Illinois, the voters might lose again.

Recognizing his own mortality and waging a valiant battle against brain cancer, Kennedy has written a letter to Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, state Senate President Theresa Murray and state House Speaker Robert DeLeo asking them to change the law so his seat might be filled immediately until a special election could be held.

His letter, a copy of which was obtained by the Boston Globe, does not specially mention his illness or desire to make a medical insurance overhaul his legacy. It merely notes he wants "continuity of representation for Massachusetts should a vacancy occur."

The implication is clear: He wants a medical plan passed even if he's not there and his vote is needed.

Kennedy is asking for a change in a 2004 law he helped get passed to prevent then-Gov. Mitt Romney from appointing a Republican replacement had Sen. John Kerry won the presidency over George W. Bush. When a Republican was governor, Kennedy supported special elections. Under a Democratic governor, he prefers gubernatorial appointments.

The Mass Legislature will do it... they already have a Bill written and waiting in the wings, so they make a few adjustments. And the folks who complain will be ignored, as they usually are.

When Kennedy dies, his dream of Communist style “healthcare” should die with him. We don’t want it.

Had Mary Kopechne lived, she would have supported this
second bill to make the Kennedy Senate Seat permanent
into perpetuity.

AND if the situation ever comes up again while there is a Republican governor, they will change it BACK again, and the outcrys will be ignored again.

No. Just ‘cause the Bridge Diver is dying does not mean he gets to change the rules of the U.S.A. He ain’t nobody.

How arrogant can one be to be on his deathbed from a brain tumor and still won’t frigging RESIGN?!
Does he think the Kennedy name and money is going to save him from death and keep him in the Senate?

Did Fathead really write this letter to the Mass governor or was Axelrod behind this?

I'd like to know where this “letter” came from and who really is behind it.

”Did Fathead really write this letter to the Mass governor or was Axelrod behind this?"

Come on, even Kennedy can’t possible be this slimy. Axelrod or Rahm must be behind this unless it’s one of the countless and faceless Kennedy Family Spokesmen I’ve heard so much from my entire life.

Nah, I think this will be the last time. They will just write the law, if there's a Democrat in the governor's office, a Senate vacancy will be filled by appointment by the governor. If there's a Republican governor, there must be a special election.

That will save all this rewriting the law every few years depending on the situation.
