... mystery surrounding the hijacking of a Russian freighter in July has taken a new twist with reports claiming the pirates were acting in league with the Israeli Mossad secret service in order to halt a shipment of modern weapon systems hidden on board and destined for Iran.
...The Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta reported over the weekend that the vessel Arctic Sea had been carrying x-55 cruise missiles and S300 anti-aircraft rockets hidden in secret compartments among its cargo of timber and sawdust.

This story does not make a lot of sense to me. Why not ship the missles via the Caspian Sea, or by air?
Not neccessarily. Just dump the junk overboard and problem solved in this case while everyone else is focused elsewhere.
This kind of tact could have several beneficial spinoffs in that it would focus on the story of it missing and eventually someone would talk from the crew (if they weren’t killed by the Russians) that could expose the real mission. This news would make for a very tough thing for the Rusklies to deal with.
It might also explain the sudden story about Russia pulling back on its agreement to arm the Mullahs with the advanced anti-aircraft missle systems.

Maybe specifically to obfuscate and hide the traces. But I guess you have a valid point. The “Mossad story” seems quite speculative and thin on evidence.

I could deal if she was the face and body of Mossad. In all seriousness though, Go Mossad Go! I wish our intelligence agencies would play hardball like Mossad. It seems like they used to.

The fishy smell just won’t leave this story.
Don’t forget that Israel, as well as the U.S. have spy birds in orbit. While they are occasionally re-tasked, they can’t substantially deviate from their general orbits. And moving them burns up fuel (supposedly some U.S. birds could be refueled via the shuttle - think about the shuttle fleet retiring on that one).
For that reason some areas of the world are watched more closely and repeatedly. Direct routes may not always be the stealthiest moves. Though placing S-300’s into a deployment would more than likely eventually be seen.
There is a definite Russia-Iran game going on here and Israel is the primary target.
The story is not impossible even though it seems improbable.

Anything's possible. There were Jewish pirates, ignoring the rumors about Lafite and a few other prominent names (everyone looks for Jewish ancestors, before long Obama will be Jewish). Samuel Palache comes to mind, Abraham and Moses Henriques, though they were more prominent arms dealers. That Israel would do this, deliberately cover up evidence of Russia shipping arms to Iran, why? Why, on the "cover up".

Were the crew members drained of blood? If so, Israel is behind it. But seriously. Who knows? I tend to disbelieve articles that start with a statement of fact couched as a question.
