While former opera singer Joanna Simon was Walter Cronkite's constant companion in the last four years of his life, summering in Martha's Vineyard and yachting off the East Coast with the legendary TV anchor, he didn't leave her a cent when he died last month.

Cheap @$$.
That’s the way it is, Joanna.
Commie deadbear SOB. RIP.
Commie deadbeat SOB. RIP.
She will write a book, expose him as a wife abuser and extreme leftist, revenge is sweet.
“Cheap @$$.”
Yes, but did he buy her all those jewels?
If he did, maybe he was not so cheap after all.
I don’t like the libtard creep, but he did the right thing this time. His kids should get the moola.
P.S.
If he didn’t, then she had a lot of money on her own anyway.
I thought Uncle Walt was a little bit old for “bros before hos”.
She’ll find a way to challenge it.And,depending on how much $$$ he left, the case will take months or,perhaps, years to sort things out.
She’s no Anna Nicole Smith.
P.S. again.
Who paid for her facelift? She or he? Those Things don’t come cheap.
She’s one of Carly’s sisters.
“I dont like the libtard creep, but he did the right thing this time. His kids should get the moola”
I agree.
Yes. I am sure she got her money.
He made up his will several years ago. He left his estate to his children. She will do the same with her estate. She is a widow and he a widower. He left things intact. Big deal. I would hope that I would not jump into the notion that I have to change my will if my spouse died just because I was dating someone. He was a liberal but no fool
“He proposed to Joanna several years ago,” one insider tells us of Cronkite. “They were going to get married on the Martha’s Vineyard estate of her sister Carly Simon. But Walter thought he should ask for his children’s permission. They went bananas. Their mother, Betsy, was married to Walter for 65 years. And as far as they were concerned, there was never going to be another Mrs. Cronkite.”
Not a fan of Mr. Cronkite, but it seemed Ms. Simon knew the score. And, the children deserve his estate.
Now I am wondering if he did give her some money while he was alive so he would not mess up his estate plans.
That's what Charles Kuralt's widow thought.Check the decision of the Montana Supreme Court in the Kuralt case and then tell me it couldn't happen to Comrade Cronkite's heirs.

Joanna Simon (born October 20, 1940) is a distinguished American mezzo-soprano and currently a Manhattan based real estate broker. She was born in New York and is the sister of rock musicians Carly and Lucy Simon.
Born in New York, Joanna Simon is the daughter of Richard L. Simon, co-founder of book publishers Simon & Schuster, Inc. and Andrea Heinemann Simon, a civil rights activist and singer.
Joanna Simon was married to the late Gerald Walker (April 16, 1928 February 19, 2004), a former articles editor for The New York Times Magazine and author of the book Cruising, published in 1970 by Stein and Day, which describes a series of crimes against gay men in New York City.
Simon also enjoyed a career as an Emmy Award-winning Arts Correspondent with the MacNeil/Lehrer News Hour from 1986-1992.
Her current career sees her based in Manhattan as Vice President of the Fox Residential Group, real estate brokers, a company which she joined in 1998.
Would you have expected anything different from this far-leftist fraud? I remember when he stated with absolute certainty that the Vietnam war was lost in 1968.
I served in Vietnam from 1969-70 and in the area from Saigon to the Mekong Delta, it was largely pacified because most of the Viet Cong who participated in Tet 1968 were killed.
Uncle Walt also was all for green energy conservation except for wind turbines on Cape Code. A worthless fraud and good riddance that he is not around to adore BP Plenty.
Revenge is, indeed, sweet!
J. Simon should have insisted on marriage if she wanted to ensure that she was protected from being left ‘high and dry’. She might not even care about money.
More than that, however, would be to do anything it takes to wipe those words from the daughter’s mouth. What a crappy thing to say in public, true or not. There was no reason to embarrass J. Simon like that... if what she claims was true, which I doubt. Nancy is absolutely uncouth.
(Cronkite’s daughter Nancy said her father was “very generous” to Simon while alive, but never intended to put her in his will. Dad said to us, ‘I don’t want to marry Joanna out of respect for your mother, and I don’t want to share my estate with her.’ “)
Love amongst the ruins!
This lady looks like she has plenty of her own moolah.
Why should Cronkite have left her anything? I know several older couples who are (or did) pair up. His assets will go to his heirs, her assets will go to her heirs. I can’t see that Cronkite did anything differently. It’s what I’d do.

Cronkite took the Clintons on his boat during the former First Family's vacation on Martha's Vineyard on Aug. 25, 1998
Joanna, it was only sex.
It’s really humorous if she was expecting anything from Uncle Walter. The American people never caught on, and apparently never did she.
Born in New York, Joanna Simon is the daughter of Richard L. Simon, co-founder of book publishers Simon & Schuster,
People in MA believe in Cronkite and Clinton and always will.
She’s from a wealthy family and has had several successful careers.
Why should his three children share anything with her?
Oh, but he loved people.
His kids “should” get the moola only because that is what he wanted. If no one was dependent on him and he made no promises, then he "should" have done what the hell ever he wanted with his estate. If he wanted to leave the money to a three-toed sloth from Petticoat Junction or a ring-tailed mongoose from Lower Slobovia, that is what he “should” "should" have done.

Why should he unless she was also his nursemaid?
If that is Carly Simon’s sister; she has plenty of bucks. They come from a rich publishing family.
Gotta say I agree with this. His money was his to do with as he wished.
My mom and dad were happily married for almost 46 years and when mom died, it nearly killed dad. He was so awfully unhappy and felt so alone. When he met a sweet little widow lady about two years later and then told us about two months later they were going to get married, we were surprised but really happy that he had found someone. She lived in Texas and he lived in NC but they had done a lot of talking and had flown back and forth to see one another. We knew he loved mom but we also knew he needed someone and thank God he found that someone. My two sisters, my brother and I were glad to see him get married again. It’s been 9 years and they are having a great time together.
Gee, I feel so sorry for the skank.
It sounds like we agree.
so in life, so in death... and that's the way it is. NOT surprised.
I look at this thing with Cronkite in a more philosophical and political way.Cronkite was a leftist.Very,*very* far to the left. And what do American leftists believe most firmly? That the world in general, and the US in particular,is just chock full of suffering...of victims of our filthy capitalist system. One would think that such a compassionate guy like Cronkite would give most...if not all...of his $$$ to homeless shelters, soup kitchens and "women's reproductive health clinics" (aka:Planned Barrenhood).
I think that Cronkite's failure to do this proves positively that he was just another rich leftist phoney.
for now...
So what? Sounds fine to me.
It was his estate, and his choice to leave it to whomever he wanted.
Doesn’t sound like his lady friend needed the money, and he was apparently open about how he wanted his estate divided.
None of our business.
I wonder if he got a special IRS exemption that I have read about (a single line in the IRS code) exempting his fortune from inheritance taxes. Hope the gubmint eats his estate. Serve the leftist right. An accountant friend said he had seen these (the IRS code is millions of lines long, IMSMR).
Give it up.
I’m perfectly happy for Cronkite to leave his estate to his kids and his friends.
What a crappy attitude here on FR. Regardless of whether you agree with Cronkite’s views or not, this is a free country, and he enjoyed the same first amendment rights that we do.
I hate estate taxes, and if I don’t want to pay them, it would be hypocritical for me to want anyone else to.
This is just a stupid discussion.
