Anyone on Medicare knows that one is only able to choose from those physicians who will accept assignment, if a doctor determines he is no longer willing to put up with having to charge his non-assignment patients much higher fees in order to make up the difference from the Medicare short-shrift

A physician cannot charge a patient more than 115% of the medicare allowable charge under non-assignment., and the enitre reimbursement by medicare is paid to the patient. The doctor must then collect the whole amount from the patient. I have heard of patients taking the money and running, leaving the doc with zilch.

must be a sc thing. in indiana, doctor bills medicare, medicare pays STRAIGHT TO DOCTOR. patient never sees this money.
