If smugness were a crime, they would put HBO "Real Time" host Bill Maher under the jail.
On NBC's Aug. 24 "Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien," Maher expressed his frustration with President Barack Obama's inability to get health care/health insurance reformed and passed into law.
"I think right now for example, this health care debate looks like it's - we could lose it because I don't think [Obama] he has been tough enough," Maher said. "You know, he used to say in the campaign, ‘It's your time.' This is his time. He should get mad, stop [expletive] around."

Maher QUICKLY lost the partisan Hollywood crowd with his arrogant smugness. Conan handled him quite well pointing out that Obama said he’d try to get agreement from both sides on the campaign trail, but Maher would hear none of it. Between attacking the american people for what they eat, he called republicans “crazy civil war reenactors” and spent a good three minutes attacking birthers, as if they were interchangeable with all republicans. He showed what a humorless, talentless jerk he actually is when Nick Cannon came on and offered him liquorice because he thought it would be funny after Maher’s rant on how bad “most americans” eating habits were. Maher didn’t crack a smile at the funny offer and said “liquorice is shit.”
This smallminded, arrogant man needs to be reminded that he’s not a politician or a great thinker... he’s the star of “Amazon Piranha Women of the Avocado Jungle.” That’s literally all he is.
Is Bill old enough to qualify for end of life counseling? He looks rode hard and put away wet, so maybe he could qualify based on looks alone.

Since it is highly doubtful he would call himself a libertarian for any deceptive purpose (why would he think such a lie would benefit him?), the only other possible conclusion is that he has no idea what the term means. Which should tell you all you need to know about the quality and depth of his political opinions.

I've always said that Maher isn't a libertarian. He's a pothead who pretends to be a libertarian so he can sound high-minded when he argues for drug legalization. Otherwise he's the statiest of statists.
