A "furious" Rep. Peter King, the hawkish, maverick Long Island Republican, blasted a "disgraceful" Eric Holder for opening an investigation of CIA interrogators and chided his own party for what he described as a weak response to the move in an interview just now with POLITICO.
"Its bulls***. Its disgraceful. You wonder which side theyre on," he said of the attorney general's move, which he described as a "declaration of war against the CIA, and against common sense."
"Its a total breach of faith, and either the president is intentionally caving to the left wing of his party or hes lost control of his administration," said King, the ranking Republican on the House Committee on Homeland Security and a member of the House Select Committee on Intelligence.
King, channeling both the sense of outrage and of political opportunity felt in parts of the GOP, defended in detail the interrogation practices threats to kill a detainee's family, and or to kill a detainee with a power drill detailed in a CIA inspector general report released yesterday.
"You're talking about threatening to kill a guy, threatening to attack his family, threatening to use an electric drill on him but never doing it," King said. "You have that on the one hand and on the other you have the [interrogator's] attempt to prevent thousands of Americans from being killed."
"When Holder was talking about being 'shocked' [before the report's release], I thought they were going to have cutting guys' fingers off or something or that they actually used the power drill," he said.
Pressed on whether interrogators had actually broken the law, King said he didn't think the Geneva Convention "applies to terrorists," and that the line between permitted and outlawed interrogation policies in the Bush years was "a distinction without a difference."
"Why is it OK to waterboard someone, which causes physical pain, but not threaten someone and not cause pain?" he asked, warning of a "chilling" effect on future CIA behavior.
"You will have thousands of lives that will be lost, and the blood will be on Eric Holder's hands," he said.
King faulted his own party leaders for an insufficient response to yesterday's announcement.
"Theyve declared war on the CIA. We should resist and fight back as hard as we can," he said. "It should be a scorched earth policy. ... This isn't just another policy. This goes to the heart of our national defense. We should do whatever we have to do."
Please give him a call (I did earlier today) and let him know you support him!
That's fine by Holder and Obama...as long as no Islamic Radicals, Black Panthers, or militant socialists are harmed.
This is just more proof.
This is a HUGE poltical error on the part of the Dems...God help them if we are hit again. But, whatever happens this is an electoral loser.
It begs the question...whose side are they on?
....I don’t wonder what side they’re on...they’re on the anti-American side....we need a new McCarthy to cast out the commies in government.
I’m curious who here would object if they actually did drill these prisoners and kill their families?
I've been thinking the same thing. It would be like shooting fish in a barrel, all he would need is a list of 0bama's thugs.
King is right. The Republican leadership is totally missing in action. They are stuck under their rock not wanting to poke their head out.
I hope to hell we can toss a few more of those worthless dirt bags in addition to getting rid of the Democrats.
What possible motivation would Dick Cheney (or whomever the dems are “blaming”) have for authorizing these (so-called) harsh interrogation techniques? Either
a) He’s a sadistic right-wing loon, or
b) He was trying to save American lives.
Holder, Obama, some left-wing media, Hollywood, and academia sycophants are going with the Choice A. Every right-thinking American knows that the right answer is B, and knows instinctively that Bush, Cheney, and the interrogators did nothing wrong. And even if the tactics occasionally crossed the line (I don’t believe they did, but even if they did) does not the end justify the means here?
It appears indisputable that the waterboarding (horrors!) of some of the high-level terrorists elicited mountains of very useful information which undoubtedly saved American lives. Weigh that fact against Obama’s weak early assertion that “we could have gotten this information by other means” (yeah right) and you have a very clear example of which camp our Great Leader is in. He and his administration, along with the lefty loonies in Congress, are going to find that their camp has only one little tent, and it’s pretty empty.
Every one of these liberal pussies should have to go through SERE School.
Given the cheap shot they took on 9/11, anything is fair game to keep these grimey bastards from doing it again. Screw em, they have already demonstrated how they treat their prisoners (decapitation, etc).
Personally, I would NEVER take prisoners. If there is no doubt they are up to no good, kill em all; let God sort them out. Avoid this BS that the dem’s are using against our nation’s security.
So flame away. I don’t care. I am tired of the way our leader’s are dealing with this issue.
If we get attacked in the wake of this cr@p, I’m guessing Holder’s head will be on a stick in pretty short order.
And that raises questions about how he handled the investigation of the White House Intern/Starbucks case back under Bill Clinton.
Certainly Eric wasn't in any better shape then than he is now.
Obama and Holder have probably been briefed on that by their friends in AlQaida.
Those people are probably planning the next attack in the White House while Obama takes his beauty rest at Martha's Vinyard.
It’s no great puzzle. Obama & the Demotraitors, are on the side of the enemies of the united States.
Holder would make a great character in a political biopic exposing the Rats. His connections to Lippo, Marc Rich, Black Panthers, Gitmo and this would provide an excellent vehicle to create a coherent documentary.
